Crazzy "Is that the knee you did on the ride last Thursday on my ride ???  "

Yes, but as along as I keep it clean it doesn't seem to effect the peddling, So I will be doing the Lightwater Laike on Sunday.

May not ride tonight, I was out last night and Tuesday so running low on brownie points.

I don't mind cobbling something together for tonight.

Could do a Horsforth ride from the woodside or Esholt/buck wood etc from the shoulder of mutton

any preference?

Woodside 7.30 sounds good.

Bonfire night tonight so the shoulder of mutton's car park will be overflowing. so if it's woodside will you send address or postcode, thanks

re pads and superstar. I have both superstar sintered padsfor Avid 5s and flat pedals and found both to be good quality

Right, woodside for 7.30 it is then

yes Superstar sintered are fine nowadays, a lot lost faith with them when they had a 'bad batch' a few years ago, but they were mostly organics.

They seem ok with returns & stuff, so no great risk really.

Many forum dwellers have a reluctance to deal with them 'cos of the the owners dodgy forum marketing tactics.

well i've had no response from discobrakes to my second e-mail asking them to confirm the compatibility...so i'm kinda stuck with...

1) order the ones i think fit from discobrakes anyway (Ric recomended)

2) order the superstar ones from ebay (Joe and Rob say OK...John says not!!!)

3) find some others from bike shop(will probably be Shimano original and expensive!!!)

All totally irrelevant until i get the piston back in anyway...lol

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Silly question (again) time...

As the brakes are hydraulic...would the fact that i'm working on the bike upsidedown cause any problems with fluid and gravity filling the reservoir and preventing the piston pushing in??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rob...reference ergon grips on sale or return

i tried them again on Tuesday and still didn't feel right...will give it one last go after a bit of angle adjustment next time out...

fairy nuff with grips, just don't wear 'em out ; )

I'm not actually advocating giving SSC money, just saying that the pads are no worse than any others nowadays ; )

Steve73, I always buy my pads from EBC Brakes.

Did you not see my post on the previous page Steve73?
Show/hide user stats
Hi SteveG...yes i did but their website doesn't list the Shimano SLX M665 type either...i'll have to e-mail them and ask...

Hi Steve 73 thanks for the info on lights.

the bike being upsidedown won't stop the piston going back in. It should just push in, see Yoda comments last page,

Hi looking forward to getting cold and wet tonight.

Thought I was going to be bikeless but Chevin Cycles came up trumps in the end and I've got my bike back with some new bits and a back brake that works!

See you at the Woodside.

Ric, intended coming with dosh tonight, but obviously at this late hour I aint gonna make it - sort it next time I c'ya.

result!!!!

pistons all back in place...all pads out and interestingly 1 pad from each pair is worn right down while the other still looks like it has a bit of life left...is this normal to have uneven wear??

now the pads are out i can see their shape and the reference number (A01S) on the back...it looks like many of the Shimano calipers use the same pads on XT/XTR/LX etc. so i now know exactly what to look for...so pads ordered from discobrakes (despite the fact they never replied to my e-mail!!!)

Cheers for thr outing last night Ric. Lovely and slippery and muddy under wheels but a nice fine evening. Pity I left before the whisky!

Good luck to all of you who are off to Lightwater on Sunday, hope the sun shines.

Lightwater was everything I have come to love, wet, cold, muddy.

I knocked 20 count them! 20 Minutes from my previous best  time. Very pleased, also sub 2 hours which was a target I set myself.

Next year I will aim to be in the top 20.
