I only just seen your message as I came in from having a hack round Clayton Woods and Woodside Quarry, I dont know much about this but that quarry has a lot of mud and sand in it which always gets dragged up into my wheels / chain / discs etc, is this basically suicide as far as my bikes components are concerned?
I will keep an eye on this board for whenever you might be meeting up near The Bridge etc as I live very near there. I cant get that memorymap program to work cos any maps I have tried downloading just come up as narrow strip of map surrounded by a black background. Any ideas?
Thanks again, good trail despite the the horrendous weather, ha I must of had my sealskin socks inside out as they were full of water, I could not feel my feet for about an hour (ha) I will look forward to a ride out again soon

long term, unfortunately, yes, but as we don't live in southern california, it's par for the course I'm afraid. Some bikes are better designed to cope with British MTB winters than others.
Brake pads first. then drivetrain. then bearings & bushings. and then back to brake pads...
Dean- glad you enjoyed it. Worst conditions I've ridden in for a while. I couldn't feel my fingers or toes when I got back home and had to pour the water out of my 'waterproof' gloves!
Conditions were hideous, thick claggy mud and deep leaf mulch mixed with palm sized leaves to help clog brakes, frames and pedals. The course was very hilly too - lots were complaining it was too much like a mountain bike course.
I felt fine when on the bike, but the running nearly killed me and there was lots and lots of it.
Anyway, I wasn't quite last, I didn't crash, I lapped somone, I wasn't lapped myself until my third lap and I didn't barf. Roll on Bingley.
Horsforth Park is the one with a mini bmx park in it, top of the ring road opposite where burger king was and esso garage, theres a band stand in the middle of the park, will meet there at 6.00 tonight
