Paul (and anyone else) a bit short notice, but Saturday (29th) a few of us setting off from Skipton sports centre carpark to do the famous Flasby fell, Embsay moor, Westy bank, Addingham loop. Has to be a late'ish 11:30 start, so wise to bring back-up lights just in case like.
I've not used the carpark before, I think it's roughly here. I think you just follow any sports centre/swimming pool signs.
Dean yeah Dalby a good idea, willingly do it in the next few weeks - too much on this week I'm afraid.
7.30 at the Shoulder at the bottom of baildon.(See previous pages)
Going upto and around Wrose then back down to Buck woods/Thackley area....maybe Esholt depending on time/cold/mechanicals/fitness/light issues/beer call/cake call........and any other variable!!
just got home......we will definitely be riding through the white stuff on our trip round Wrose tonight!the roads are already covered up here!and it's coming down fine style.........bring it on!Two foot please mr snow delivery person.
Paulc and Macattack - I'm really sorry not to have got back to you sooner - I didn't even know we had a mailbox on here - hence no idea I had a message from you.
I'll be there tonight - assuming my hand stops bleeding in time - used a screwdriver to press out a part of my trackpump..... slipped.... screw driver in hand! I know bloody I should know better than be that stupid!
It's bandaged now so and it only hurts a little so I can't see why I shouldn't be there.
Had a quick look online at prices for parts for battery packs and I can do double battery packs (4 cells, 2sets of 2 in parrallel) for £35-£40 plus the cost of connectors to your light system - which I can't quote on until I know which ones they are.
how about the lord darcy, harrogate rd, alwoodley, for thursdays ride ? Skis .............and bikes required. snow patrol to leave at 7.30. "You big jessies!" welcome
The cells in the hope and my packs are 2200mAh to 2400mAh (same cells but people measure the capacity differently so the quoted figures vary a little). The Hope Vision 2 LED lights run on 7.4v (or two cells (3.7v each) in serries to get 7.4v).
As far as I know you can run as many packs in parallel as you like thus maintaining the same voltage but increasing the capacity so:
(based on the lower estimate for the cells capacity)
1 pack (2 cells) = 7.4v 2200mAh
double pack (2x2cells) = 7.4v 4400mAh
triple pack (3x2cells) = 7.4v 6600mAh
I'm happy to make these - but a double or triple won't fit in the bag you have at the moment (assuming the battery bag is little one for the small 2 cell packs that hope supplied). Also a triple (6 cell) pack may not cause the light to flash when its getting low (I'll try to do some experiments at home to check) - but I can make a triple if you want - although the cost will be higher of course as there are more cells, circuits etc.
Your charger should charge these fine as each pair of cells has a circuit protector that cuts off the charge to each pair of cells at a set figure (usually at 4.35v per cell)
The Hope "intelligent" charger pumps out enough power to charge the cells up to this and when it senses that the batteries have disconnected themselves it changes the colour of the LED from red to green. Its not really a smart/intelligent charger as its the protection circuits in the batteries that do all the clever stuff - this is why its not a trickle charger either. So it will just take longer to charge a larger pack.
In terms of the push fit connectors - thats easy as I already have worked out how to do those. Add £5 for the parts for those.
Anyway if you want to go for any of the above just let me know - it will take a few weeks to get the parts in from the US & Hong Kong - although in the meantime I'm happy to lend you one of my existing 2cell packs as a backup to keep you in light.
My Email address has changed from the one in the profile but I'll send you a Bikemagic mail message (now I know they exist!) with my contact details.
Oh yeah forgot to say - if anyone has the hope LED lights and has found they are getting a bit low on light I now know how to upgrade them!
The LEDs get old - Hope are over powering them to get a bit more light but this degrades the LEDs over time - after about 18months to 2 years the light power starts to decrease noticably.
I can do a straight swap replacement for the LEDs if you need - I've got the bin numbers for the LEDs written down at home but from memory they are Luxeon K2 stars.
HOWEVER.... LED technology has moved on a bit since then and the pair of these LEDs when new only kicked out 300lumens. I am upgrading mine with Seoul P4 LEDs that kick out 240lumens each (so giving you just under 500lumens) and they use less current when doing it as well so they have longer burn times (they will also last longer as they aren't being overdriven like the hope ones!).
BUT the problem is the circuit that Hope designed was for the K2s and the Seoul have lower voltages and can't take the extra power that the K2s can so you need a new circuit for the inside of your lights - but I can sort that as well.
All in all you are looking at about £20 for 2 Seoul LEDs and £30 for a new circuit board - plus a bit of fiddling on my part to get it all to fit.
2 new Luxeon K2 stars (rank V) will cost about £15.
