Have you not heard of a bike shop in otley called Dirtwheels they do a ride on thurs evening usually around 6.30pm. Go on face book and type in Dirtwheels and become a friend.
yes, I've seen Dirtwheels. Just curious, can a town the size of Otley support 2 bike shops? I suppose if they sell different brands then maybe, but that's only on new bike sales. What about parts, spares, maintenance?
6.30pm is too early for most of us. We used to start at 7pm & that was found to be too early.
IPA - India Pale Ale - don't care where you buy it from - best off drinking it and cleaning your chain wiuth something less palatable!
Seirously though buy a chain wear tool, change your chain when you're at 75% wear - you should get to use three chains before you need to change your sprokets and 4 or 5 before you need to change your middle ring. All depends on how much mud you ride through. This year = lots of mud = loads of sprocket wear even in the "summer" (yes there was one - but if you slept in on July 14th you missed it - tough)
Check your chain for wear regularly and most often in muddy conditions - ie always!
No hadn't heard of 'em myself. Yup 6:30 too early for me too, but seems they have three night-rides a week already so must be ok for some - does at least give time for a longer ride.
Rides pre-book only or just turn up at the shop? ('fraid I don't do facebook).
We often ride the same area ourselves - may cross paths one night.
they're about three shops up from Modelsport, IIRC. Doesn't look very big from the outside when driving past & concentrating on the traffic in front of you, but I haven't been in so can't say for definite
this weeks Thurs night ride is from Otley, this time the start has moved a bit further up the hill to The Spite Inn, just for a change really, 'nowt wrong with the Yew Tree or 'owt. Gives a chance to re-arrange the route a bit.
I doubt conditions will be greatly different than the last few weeks, so nowt we're not used to. Rain will dilute the mud anyway.
Yep turn up at shop but best letting the shop know you are coming. The shop it self specialise in Merida bikes and designer bike clothing like race face and troy lee designs. There also do servicing for a very reasonable price. If the time is too early they might? be able to wait a bit for you.
I've just been given our helpdesk phone for the next 7 days - which means I need to be no more than an hour away from fixing any problems that might happen.
Short of dragging my laptop around with me & hoping I can get a signal for my mobile broadband, that means no riding for me until next Friday.
So I'm afraid I can't make the Leeds 50, and I can't lead any rides next week
At last a rain free ride, still lots of lovely mud though. Paul, looks like you were right I have just checked our mileage for tonight and I make it 14.7 miles. No wonder my legs were protesting.
who'd have thunk it, I thought it was just the hills taking their toll - perhaps as well we did miss the last three mile loop.
Rather nice night really, a bit moist underwheel in places, but unusually dry along the milefields, or at least on those bits not covered by shrubbery.
Thanx Gill for showing us the new cheeky cuts, I'm thinking the whole route in reverse could be goer, would just mean a bit of a climb back up to Stainburn, but hey, gotta have hills in there somewhere...
Granville - I'm due to hand the phone over on Thursday morning so a Thursday evening / Friday morning commute might be possible. Just need the weather to hold out...
...but on the other hand, if Friday morning is pants & Thursday evening is not, I may do a bit of this off-road cycling lark. Anyone have any plans for that far ahead?
