I think prefixing that ride by a gentle warm up from Hayfield over Jacobs might be in order, its only an hour into Edale I think. Then we'd at least be too knackered to show off our manly fitness level (or not in my case at the moment!).
See how I feel on the day, going by how I've been for the last few weeks I might just focus on the cake eating part of the ride.
When will this Peak Virus/bug thing go away. Its not really serious enough to stop me riding - its currently a mildish cold and I'm slightly blocked up, and I feel a bit delicate to some foods in the guts area. Any ideas?
oh, and Jon (or anyone else for that matter), I've still got those Maxxis High Rollers on from Spain. Are they Peak compatible or will they get stuck in the mud and/or slip off all know Peak rock, and puncture on first contact? I was impressed with them out in Spain - excellent grip. And Nobby Nicks just dont last and are sooo expensive.
Is there a Jon/Dave? Its some horrible amalgum of Jon and I. I started to describe such a frankenstein creation but it was too horrible and had to delete the text, I leave it to your imaginations.
The Jon/Dave composite sounds awesome - sort of grumpy and a bit pernickety at the same time with a deep-seated aggressive streak and machine-like climbing qualities. I don't know which bike it would ride though. And I guess it would take a long time deciding, what with its schizophrenic set of preferences and priorities... See, there's no deletions here, just the full-on horror. It wouldn't have much hair though...
Finally, I've resorted to running at the moment, and I have a feeling that the weather is scheduled to go ape-shit again for tomorrow, but if it doesn't, does anyone fancy a nightride on this side of the Peak pond? Conditions permitting and all that?
I've sent a message out to the Buzzards guys about a ride up your end sometime soon, possibly during the Christmas break. I assume I can rely on some guidance from you Chris? And idealy we'd be looking to something other than the Hope/Roman Road/Ladybower route. Possibly a start up the broken road and down Rushup Edge and into infinity and beyond.
And also Jackets (this is the place to ask innit) After a good winter jacket thats warm (obviously) but is'nt a waterproof.

Tee-shirt should be fine unless temperatures fall below -20C. Everything in the Peak is singlespeed friendly. Both Chris and I use the Paramo Velez Smock in winter conditions, it's actually waterproof but very breathable with it and has good venting. A bit warm in anything other than near zero and below, but good, if pricey.
Yeah I was looking for a good winter tee shirt, you know the ones that have fag packet storeage in the upper arm, but the only place I found selling them was in Newcastle!

Warm but not waterproof? Wouldn't that be a fleece/jersey type thing then? The Ground Effect Frosty Boy get's good feed-back and I've been tempted to try one myself. There are a few others that have windproof panels in strategic places that might be worth a look Carl, I think Endura and Polaris do something similar.
I'm on for Saturday and will bring my mad cake eating skillz. I'm sure one little indiscretion won't kill the diet......
On the subject of this mysterious Peak District Bug, my observations are that it seems to only attack those who have been accused of overdoing it. Perhaps it's just fatigue? Try doing lower intensity stuff and allowing more recovery time perhaps?

It's just a rather tenacious virus I think, not fatigue, though general tiredness will probably mean a slightly below par immune system. Obviously makes sense to back off if you are down with something though.
