Yup, keep an eye out chaps, although I doubt the bastards that nicked my bikes will have the balls to actually ride them anywhere. They'll just be running round Collyhurst or Mosside with some hoody on board.
Ros's Stumpy is pretty standard spec, although if you were to see one with Mavic UST rims (Enduro - the old ones), together with yellow cable ties on the gear outers, then that would help identify. Other than that, you've probably seen Ros riding the Giant at most races this summer to know to spot it (white Sella Italia womens saddle, Thompson post, Rebas with red Hope hose guides on the legs). The Patriot is pretty unique too - orange plastic bash guard, Moto V2 brakes (vented discs), Salsa silver QR seat clamp, silver ProII hubs, silver Hope headset and its de-stickered. I cannot believe it will not resurface.
Never mind, mate. You missed an A1 awesome plus day over Cut Gate. A tad crowded and I don't like all of what they've done in the name of trail restoration, but dry, fast, sunny, warm - hurrah
That's where you may be wrong - lots of the Peak has washed down to the bottom of the steep hill. If things continue, most of it will soon be in a large pile of rubble somewhere near Buxton or even further south...
Anyone got any spare forks, they can manage without for a few weeks?
Julie's lending Ros her old Rockhopper since both her bikes were stolen and it's the one thing that the bike's short of - right now it's in commuter mode and has rigids on the front.
I have some spare disc brakes, so that's okay, but we're short of a fork that bounces up and down. It's just a loan, so you can have it back once Ros has a new bike of her own.
If you get really desperate I have a some Judy's in the shed. they just about go up and down if you push really hard and weigh about 1/2 a ton. But if all else fails.
Thanks Jon, Chris & Julie I really appreciate it. Chris - we will give you a call and pop over sometime this week.
I am just so pi**ed off at the moment, I just hope that the insurance coughs up and doesn't find a loophole to hang us with. £6.5k worth of bikes is not something we will be able to replace in a hurry otherwise.
I also have some rebas with worn stanchions you can have/borrow if chris's dont work out (or if you want to take the least worn ones maybe)- mmm, I see a pattern emerging.
any more info on the situation of the theft. Obviously I also live in New Mills. Luckily I dont have any bikes worth nicking, but nevertheless if its pros I may have to up my anti theft devices and take a bit more care.
Do you think it was pro scrotes or just local scrotes?
what did they break thru to get at your bikes (eg locks, chains, etc)?
Hey Ros, no worries. You must be fuming - hope the insurance sorts out without problems.
As far as the bike goes, just need to swap the forks and stick some disc brakes on it - I have a spare set of Shimano XTs plus some spare rotors just sitting here, so that shouldn't take too long.
Dave - They broke into a locked garage, we didn't actually have the bikes locked inside the garage as we didn't think it was necessary. I think we will be reviewing our security arrangements in future! No idea whether they were pros or not but they certainly knew what they were after as they left loads of other stuff and took the most expensive bikes. I think that the police are going to come over and interview us sometime soon so may have more clues. Will let you know about the rebas - cheers.
Thanks Jon - I think the plan is to pop over after yoga on Weds and pick up the various bits for Gavin to put together for me. So it will probably be just after 9pm on Weds if that's ok with you?
Damn, that's no good. Not exactly subtle either...
Ros, Wednesday should be fine, I think. You can have first generation XT levers, the four-pot ones, with second generation calipers and Goodridge hose. A very sought-after combination...
You're not exactly going to miss someone riding around that in Brighton are you? I know Rob is going to be gutted as we are. I'd handbuilt the wheels and pretty much everything on two of the bikes that were nicked, so its a lot more than 'just a bike', as you guys will well know and appreciate.
Chris/Dave - my suspicion is that these bikes were nicked to order, or at least by someone who knew exactly what they could sell on easily. The Carver is probably too unusual and road bikes are not that 'desirable' by thievin' druggy scum-bags. They left loads of climbing, skiing and walking stuff, so probably just a bike gang. Thankfully (for me anyway), I'd taken all of my tools and the Cotic into my works workshop on Friday afternoon, to set up for the course I was running over the weekend, otherwise I'm guessing that they would have gone too.
I guess it's not much consolation that it won't be any use to anyone
I'm just hoping that no one will steal a shonky and muddy singlespeed.
Gav and Ros, I've got a couple of busy evenings this week. I have to go to a meeting at New Mills Nursery School tomorrow night (I'm a guv'nor there), so how about about I pop the forks round on my way about 7:15?
