Anyone use/know of a good rack for the landrover freelander. It has to go over/around the large spare wheel and ideally still allows the back door to still be opened. Believe there are two options: 1. A tow bar mounted rack specially designed for rear wheel mounted 4x4s
2. A rack that fits directly onto the spare wheel.

Any experience of either and suggestions of where to get one. Halfords do a wheel mounted rack but is it any good?

Check to see if Witter do one that'll get round spare wheel issue. I've got a towbar mounted model, and you can buy the mounting plates for other family cars. We broke down in France and I simply lifted the whole rack of and dropped it on to the other vehicle with us. not sur how you overcome the door issue though.

I'm not sure what rack is going to be best for your particular requirements but I can throughly recomend <a href=”http://www.roofbox.co.uk/”*The Roof Box Company*/a>

I've bought a number of roof bar systems and bike carriers from them. Their knowledge and service is excellent.

My friend also has a suzuki vitara(we make fun of him : ))and had a roof system fitted, but it scratched the roof alot, then he went into a carpark barrier you know the rest....expensive

I dont know about that spare tyre that sticks out the back, but if you're looking for a towbar mounted rack look at the Atera Duro

http://www.roofbox.co.uk/ar2501r.html

I scoured the market and this seems about the best. It will take 4 bikes, fits the towbar easily and is stable enough to allow you top do a ton without noticing it on the back. Handy for flying visits to CYB.

Having a rack with gutters means that suspension bikes fit on really easily. I paid £300 for the 4 bike version.

I got the "Hollywood F7 Adventurer Spare Tyre Rack" from my LBS.
It fits onto the spare tyre.
Very strong, the only down side is it only takes 2 bikes.
Wiggle do it for £86.
