Right Tom
For the shock you need to know a few sizes...

you need:
the stroke length = the amount of useable shaft.

eye to eye lenght = center to center of the 2 pivot bolt holes with the shock extended

Upper bush width = total width including shock..

lower bush width = total width including shock..

Also check with Hotwheels (importer of mongoose and GT) that you wont void your frames warenty, they had niggle at me when my frame cracked but id spoken to a chap (and got his name) when i'd upgraded my shock and he said it would be ok.....

Anybody know which travel setting is which on the Teocali, I've got it set in the lower hole at the moment, is this 4.75" or 5.75" of travel?
I can't work it out.

Bottom one is longer travel, also makes the shock feel considerably softer. I guess cos of the increased leverage.
Who says you can't get a good FSer for Sub £1000. :)

Check out the new GT in halfords, £900 RS Recon Forks ( better than Splices ), Hayes HFX 9 XC brakes ( 180mm upfront ), bloody good value for money, similar platform same maker as the Mongooses.

Thanks (AKA) Andy,

The shock appears to be 190mm eye-to-eye; however I am not sure how to work out the stroke length... as for the bush widths I'm still not sure what I should be measuring - the width of the shock at the mounting points, or the 2-piece metal bolt that connects it to the frame, or something else?

I am thinking a slightly stronger spring might increase it's performance; it's a X Fusion Glyde Coil with rebound adjust, stock on the Teocali Comp 05...
it'll be 50.7mm the same as my Fox Air jobby.

Measure the total width of the spacers, when they are fitted into the shock as is ( size of the frame where the shock mounts really )

Harder coil, would reduce Sag, and reduce travel are you using to much trave??, or would you like the back end higher and steeper angles, while riding ?? ( If you've got a rubber thing on the inner shaft, slide that forward then you can measure the Sag and see how much travel your using )

The shock is 190mm eye to eye, with a 50mm stroke (or pretty close, i doubt anyone will sell you a 50.7mm stroke shock).

I can't remember the bushing sizes, but if you phone the nice people at Mojo they can tell you.

A stiffer spring than standard will not reduce your travel, it just means you require more force to move it through the travel. I ended up buying a whole new shock, and the spring is 100lb over the old one. I think an air shock would suit it better in a lot of ways, as one spring only just covers the difference when changing from the shorter to longer travel settings.

I'm just trying to improve the performance of the rear suspension really... Currently I'm getting through most of the travel fairly easily, despite fiddling with preload and rebound til the cows come home.

My mate's Fox Float RL performs far better in terms of soaking up bumps rather than bouncing off them, resulting in a much smoother and more efficient ride feel; it also appears to minimise pedal bob noticeably more effectively compared to this one. I was consequently looking at fitting some flavour of Fox Float but still need to get my head round what I'll need in order to do so, other than the right shock size!

...more info for context, I'm using the shorter rear travel setting, with 105mm Marzocchi MX Comp forks up front, as I only ride cross-country
Personally, I'd put the Manitou 3way Swinger in there, £130 - £140 on CRC if they do your size, you can adjust the amount of Pro Pedal then to get the feel you like, Andys got one on his GT, prefered it Pro Pedal feel wise to a Fox Float.

Cheap to :)

Does sound like a 100lb *extra* coil would help though, but maybe the Damping circuit on that shock isn't upto much, so likely better off with something new.

If you're looking for a Float, the simplest way is likely to be giving Mojo a ring. They're pretty friendly, can sort you out with the shock and the appropriate bushings and anything else you might need.

I do think the rear shock on the Teocali Comp is it's biggest weak link.
This shock

They do your size, 40% off :)

Looks like X-Fusion and Manitou use the same Spacers, so your ones should remove and slot into the 3way, Or £10 here :-

( might not be the right size )

Heard good things about the Swinger 3-way... cheers for the info. Will now sit and stare at my bank balance for a while

Good call Dylan, CRC actually have a few rear shocks on there which would fit and do a better job than the standard one. There's a DT one for £150 and a couple of the new RS ones too, tho i dunno if they're meant to be any good.
Atleast the Swinger you can tune the ProPedal, My GT ID5 with the RP3 in the + Mode rides like a bag of shite, so if you get a Float with too much Pro Pedal on it's a £80 service revalve cost, or too little the same ofcourse.

Rather than Connect Pump, slap some air in and see.

And there Cheap, RS Ario 2.2 there aswell £120 Got a lockout, better damping, but no mention of Pro Pedal, also worth considering, they fit those to the new GT's and Goose I'd bet.

Looks like Fox has been knocked off their perch by R/S then

Nice, thanks for that.
