well, i've gone through truvativ, shimano & fsa rings, i must go and check the garage and see what i can salvage... with help of a grinder
i dunno, i just ride it to college 5 days a week, then wherever else on weekends + off road, it gets cleaned once a week, + after every off road ride, and i clean the chain to the max, and lube with finish line green, it's kept uptogether, it just doesn't like me!
20,000 + km out of a Stronglight single ring. I've rotated it on the spider a couple of times, filed the worst of the hooks off and it's still in use. Not that I'm tight or anything.
I did le havre to geneva, and all the getting about between there, plus off road rides and getting about on my LX rings no worries. Think its just mike
Have any of you tried Blackspire (super pro)? If you can them at the right price they are the business. Also, instead of 22,32,44. Try 24,32,42. That way your more likely to use the inner and outer rings more often, and therefore not wear down the middle ring as often.
Really don't understand, I rode a Truativ set around here and the peaks and wales for 6,000mile+ and it was still useable I replaced cause it cost me £6 ( was steel though )
The Deores are good rings, they chain suck much less than the new Tru's do.
Some very wearing mud round your way then Mike I reckon
I got 4500 miles out of a Middleburn middle ring and it was still working fine
Now running steel deore middle ring, be intersting to see how long it lasts
Have a Truvativ alu' ring on the SS roadbike, so far it's done 5000 miles and no problem yet and it gets ridden in all weathers all year round and rarely cleaned thoroughly
top tip - to make your chain and rings last longer try not to pedal while applying the brakes ;)
Sounds like something is up with the bike. I would suggest changing the cassette, rings and chain together next time. Could it be that there is something wrong with the bike / chain alignment?
The Cycle Dynamics Ti middle ring is quite drab and boring to look at as its a dull grey and very skinny not your usual 'look good' shiny aluminium, they are also gear cut and not stamped. The teeth fit in the chain better as a result of this which means less movement between the ring and chain and they are nice and smooth and shiny inside.Alu rings are usually rough inside the teeth. As for Deore steel rings - SHITE.Mate had a new one of me last year(April).Come Xmas it was annihilated.Have also used Blackspire Super Pro rings and didn't rate them, the middle ring wore out in 5 months. The Ti ring has had 4 muddy outings each being 50-60 miles and it hasn't got a mark on it,I'm impressed.I will never go back to cheesy alu rings again, I've been waiting for Ti rings for years.
