I've started getting chain slip at the back if I am out of the seat and I hit a root, or kurb, or something like that. I've heard that worn jockey wheels can cause this, so could that be the problem?
But I was thinking, instead of just replacing the jockey wheels, I might as well buy a new rear mech, as mines a 18 month old alivio (sp?) that came with the bike. So would a LX be a good balance between price and performance, or should I go with deore or XT?
IMO LX isn't really worth it, Deore is good, XT is better, but more expensive. You pays your money and takes your choice.
I doubt it's just jockeys causing that problem though, they dont have the ability to shift the chain, just stop it shifting if you know what I mean. Your chain can't really 'ride' up over the jockey wheels like it can the chainrings or cassette too.
I just think that LX is a bit of a 'not one thing nor t'other' group. XT offers clear performance benefits and does weigh less, than Deore, but LX is a tiny bit more expensive than Deore, with minute gains.
I'd go with Mike's advice, if you feel flush- XT, if not, Deore.
