Stepping aside of the lube ejected by RVT and BB....

Jones ACX 2.2 sound great being recommended by The Lovely Deb and BB and others mentioned in third party.  Debs why don't you use them now?  Also do they still roll well being a 2.2?

I also read that 'Kenda Tomac Small Block 8 DTC Tyre' is good and I think Spice either has those or something similar but no direct recommendation coming from him, just well let's leave it there shall we?

Any other recommendations before I go for the Jones ACX 2.2?

I could read forums and products reviews all day on the Net but I'd rather be recommended by people I ride with (on the stuff I ride!) just like I was with the Fuel EX8 and I love it!

aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I'm spent.

Maxxis Crossmarks are what you're looking for Rev.  You can buy them at your local friendly bike shop (and at ACTiV!!).  Alternatively I can lend you a pair for you to try if you like.  I also have a pair of Maxxis Advantage should you feel the urge to go with something a little less 'fast-rolling'.  I'm running the Crossmark on the front, it has a nice rounded profile and turns in nicely.  The Advantage on the rear was chosen simply for a bit more traction in the rough stuff.  They performed faultlessly in Wales and I'll be running with them for as long as possible until the rain sets in and all the trails turn to gloop.

Should you be bothered about weight, clearly all of the  tyre bores (BB Captain and myself) aren't, they're nice and light too.

Thx RVT! Judging by the times of your posts you have obviously put a lot of effort and gained max pleasure from your input (or is that output?)

Votes so far are:

  • Jones ACX 2.2 - 2 votes
  • Maxxis Crossmarks (front) & Maxxis Advantage (rear) - 1 vote

Any more offers pls?  Come on Captain speak up!

P.S. Thanks to Stuntman for his two word come back - that's class m8

Weasel votes for her tyres, which funnily enough are the same as mine!

I have some Small Block 8's if you want to try them too.  They're the fastest tyres other than slicks, amazing in anything dry, but crap in mud - and I really do mean crap.  Let me know what you want to test and I'll bring them on Thursday!

I have also got Trek EX8 with tubeless tyres but now have tubes in them - is that why I'm so much slower than the rest of you!!  Anybody want to go riding in the week between 9 and 3 as want to get faster!!!  If weather good thinking of going to Bedgebury Friday - kids have training day - anybody interested - could take turns baby/boy sitting!

OK, if you insist

Bontrager tyres - like the compound. Best of the bunch is the mud

Kenda tyres - most favouritest tyre ever is the small block 8. good for ~9 months of the year. Also seriously liking the Nevegal DtC/SWS.

Have you considered not matching the tyres to try and get the best of both worlds? I'm currently running a SB8 rear and Nev front and liking it. Especially chuffed now that Kenda have started offering additional reinforcement with SWS.

Also, checkout the Maxxis High Roller. Size up small but supposed to be very good (Noodle's just got a pair).

Tyres I'd happily recommend as being good in the areas i ride:

SB8, Nevegal, MudX, Medusa

The reason I'm not riding them just now is I'm too darned lazy to change from my (tubed) tubeless Jones XC's, which I don't have a problem with on my rims

Hel Hill - I'll ride with you on Thursday morning if you like?  I'm doing a route for the 'Happy Group' on Thursday evening with some new and interesting bits for them....

Would love to but have just been reminded that I have PTFA meeting Thursday am (how sad am I!!!) Could make next Wed, Thurs or Fri as half term and boys on football course (10 -3) will have Matt in tow as well so as long as not windy would be up for it!!

Slightly random I know....But...Has anyone ever taken part in "Tough Guy" or wants to?
Show/hide user stats

Tough guy seriously mad in the winter not so bad in the summer. I might be up for it but need to do some serious training for it you also need to be near the front! I'm tempted to do the paras 10 and or the commandos challenge next year as the money goes to a better place!!
