Great tyre advice from all of those who contributed. I cannot ignore Spice's amazing offer for me to try out his tyres before I buy, it's such a nice gesture I am humbled Please make sure any previous *cough* hmm 'lube' has been removed beforehand though! Is it alright if I turn up say 18:30 on Thu at your place to put some tyres on before rolling (hopefully fast) up to the green?

Where the hell did that advert for a certain deodorant turn up from on my previous post?!! WTF are Bikemagic up to???!!!
 Sure Rev, no worries.
Hell Hill, post again next week to remind me. Not sure what I'm up to next week, but should be OK on Wednesday or Thursday.

It's on other threads too - I reported it earlier they are checking it out....oooh, wonder if it's hackers - the editor doesn't think BM did it. Seems to only be on latest page and it comes and goes. Odd! Stay posted!

Ah ha! Very clever, I think if you type sure or deodorant it picks up the advert........ It works with running and training too. I wonder what will happen if I type in 'fit, naked bloke?'

I'm still none the wiser, I'm afraid. I can't see anything on this page right now. Anyone else?

There are key words that have a double underscore. You may need to page backward then forward again to get them to register. I can see them on Rev's posting and there are a couple on the previous page. But mine don't seem to be working yet? Hold your mouse over the underlined word and an advert will come up (Garmin on Sure), quite clever really.
Yes very clever - it's working on mine. I wondered why training was underlined!!

Evening peeps... I won't be riding tomorrow evening though will hopefully be along for a beer afterwards... Someone will need to lead the long, hard & fast (snigger...) ride... BTW, click the little '?' on the top right corner of the advert pop-ups and it will tell you all about it. Apparently it's only done with the permission of the website so I presume someone in BM.com knows about it. Quite a cunning gizmo really!

Hi all it another tire geek here,Rev im with Vapour Trails recommendation on the Maxxis,i have a pair of 2.1 high rollers you could try some time too,i can bring them along tonight if you like. Im running the 2.35 ust and their lovely.

Rev et al, another tire geek here too. I too got some very good advise from the peeps on this forum. It sounds like you're after an alrounder to me and the ACX probably fits that bill. I still riding my summer tires (small block 8s) at the moment which have been pretty awsome, although I may have to take them off for the next ride. I have some bontrager ACXs at my intermediates which I've not fully tested yet but Big bear will tell you is all you need especially as they are both black and round. My full on winter tyres are Bontrager mud x which I love, I feel comfortable throwing them into the corners in pretty much any conditions.

Whilst I'm on here...and this may be a dippy question.... I'm assuming disc wheels are not made strong enough at the rims to use with v-brakes, is that right? I am concidering getting a new wheelset and moving my SSRs that came with my 6700 to my work bike but that only has v-brakes currently. Also, any suggestions for a good wheelset? I'm currently thinking of Mavic XC717 rims on hope pro 2 hubs. They seem to offer alot for the money, light and reliable. Can Activ get mavics in or do they only do bontragers? Cheers.
I think you're right - the braking surface isn't strong enough. Excellent choice with the Hope hoops - Luke will be able to sort you out, give him a call
Cheers Captain! I'll be giving Luke a call then. ta.
Good choice on the wheels,Mavic are the nuts, been using the cross trail ust, they have been bullet proof and are tubeless ready.Wont be out to play tonight as my Hope 4 didnt arrive today from a warranty job .

I can lend you an old hard tail if you fancy Noodle... It's old school XT, with v-brakes and Rock Shox Judy's up front. It'll take you back 10 years!! It's in the shed if you want it. Jeff - You can get carbon rims for use with rim brakes - just like nearly every bike in a 'le Tour TT' but they are either disc or rim brake specific - there is no crossover. Disc wheels are also dished slightly differently (narrower) to allow for the rotor and its carrier. Luke can get you Mavic rims in the shop.
