As in when it comes from CRC, I check my tension frequently, had a vague feeling for weeks while turning, lost the spoke tool, recently found and very loose.
Spokes stretch and need re tensioning frequently I find.
As Roger says a properly built and de-stressed wheel should not need any retensioning, especially not after the first ride. You should get all the twisting and "ping" out of the spokes as you build and tension the wheel in the first place.
My spokes are tensioned such that, if you were to put a twig in the chainstay it would play a merry little tune as you rode....I should really look into that.
All the wheels i have had built by Melin, have never needed anything done to them ever! Dylan, Maybe you shouldnt be buying wheels from CRC?
or maybe its you messing with them, that means they need retensioned frequently. As an experiment, get some new wheels and just leave them alone. See how you go.
Hey Roger, I'm not that fat. I use no butted for max strength.
Fraser :-
CRC deliver the wheels, next day, Merlin 2 - 3 weeks. CRC wheel builds have been better than Merlin's of recent, I was once a Merlin wheel build fan to.
Well, you've certainly put me off every getting wheels built by CRC.
My last Merlin build was April last year. the wheel was built and delivered within three days. Was perfect, and is still going strong, without putting a spoke key anywhere near it.
sorry but dyl .... a good built wheel will not need retensioned as much as your doing.
ive toured on road wheels (mavic cpx33 on hope monos with sapim double butted) with 12 stone of me and 3.5 stone of kit on the back over the rough roads up in the scottish highlands just fine
ive built wheels for riders of 6 foot 6 and 18 stone who have ridden them hard on gate like cove stifees
never have issues like that
cheap wheels aint worth the hassle .... ive yet to see a good build from CRC or merlin ... there adaquate but there far from good
roger mussons wheel pro wheels are the only mail order wheel id buy above building my own (which ive done for 8 years now, my first couple of wheels did as your wheels seem to be doing but once i got propper taught by an experianced wheel builder and got plenty experiance behind my self it was all gravy)
