Haven't been on here for ages...some of you may remember I brought the above sometime ago now and then put Dylans Talas on it.....
Well a combination of me not getting on at all with Truvativs BB system, Poor sizing and weather has mean't that since purchase I have only ridden this bike about 5 times...
So wanting to get back into it I feel this bike is holding me back.....I was mostly blinkered by 'full suspension' and spent very little time actually thinking about what I needed..
So the ultimate question now is....how much am I likely to get for this bike?
GT I-drive 5 3.0 with Fox Talas (think 2004) upgraded bars to BBB Carbon... The BB is in need of replacement as the bearings are shot (Truvativ Hollow thingy) so this would be replaced with shimano LX probs.....how much am I likely to get? (Purchased November 2006)
I know this is a bit of a cheeky post but I really wanna get back on it and this is holding me back
Pretty sure 05 Talas RLC is it ?? but don't quote me on it.
Didn't we have a size discussion WAY back, i said they where bigger than you'd want or something, what went wrong dude ??
Describe your size issue ?? top tube to high ? cockpit to long or short ?? fixing this bike is your cheapest option, there DAMN good bikes, so 5times in 12months since I sold you the Talas's is just wrong dude.
Not a well sort after bike, as no bling status attached to it, and halfords selling a version for £820, so £400 - £600 maybe, big hit!!
Don't know about the Tala'....they are RLC but not sure on year...
Right basically the cockpit is too short and top tube not high enough (if this is possibel lol).... I know I could stick a long stem on maybe even a slung back seat post...hadn't considered doing this...suppose its just a matter of going to LBS and playing...
It all started to go wrong when I couldn't get my cranks off to service the BB this resulted in having to drill out the crank bolts (Imagine my dismay, new bike n all)
Got the cranks off and the BB was shot really....bearings all crunchy typical Truvativ GXP...Replacable bearings near on non existant...Cash flow problems meant that I couldnt replace it so I rode it a few times but this coupled with the slight size issue was giving me no enthusiasm...then some dodgy weather...and a return to other hobbies and thats where the bike has stayed....
Got the house insurance quote today and turns out the bike is costing £42 a year on that so I thought something needs to be done....hence this post...
If I could get 500-600 for the bike I'm pretty sure I'd be prepared to sell...get out and start fresh with a simple hardtail (deore/decent entry fork etc) I feel i'm not using the bike to justify having it and I think someone else could make much better use of it...
Here endeth the story......damn thats a long post.....
Personally, the £500 you'll get for it, will not get you a nice HT or even close.
Top tube not high enough IGNORE.
Cockpit length, rotate bars forward and slap that seat back, maybe a different seat post with more layback as my GT needs the seat quite far back and I run a 80mm stem.
There DAMN good bikes, I'd just get it sorted honestly!!!
Did you get a Small then ?? my Medium is too big for me really, but my frames worn and tatty had alot of use.
* was only thinking about you yesterday as you'd disapeared *
The rides fantastic, sort your BB out and the cockpit and damn good bike, yeah it's not light but who cares, the only bikes as/maybe more efficent is the giants.
Do a better pic, side on no angle so I can see seat position and stem size / bars, higher quality and bigger to.
lol yeah i might be a bit quicker than you at posting stuff, i only changed my bb as the k2 was creaking and it turned out not to be the bb so i now have a very good spare.
With jeff just donating his BB to the cause its made me think....
there was someone around here who had his bike nicked....and everyone clubbed together and made him a bike....the article was published just before I disappeared....hows that all going?
