I have had a pro2 for a few months now, and i am sick to death of the noise, good for clearing hikers out of the way, but ruins the experience of riding a peaceful ridgeline in the middle of nowhere.
I will probably change it for either an xt or dt swiss unit.

Funny you should say that. My mate's got Hope hubs and they DO make a racket. Said mate now has a broken arm as he flew over the handlebars 2 weeks ago while we were riding steps in town...............I wonder if the constant clicking distracted him? Probably not as too much speed and touching the brakes means 'kiss your arse bye bye'!!
XT, Superstar, Nukeproof. All good stuff. I've seen to many woes with Hopes to go back to the hubs (to be fair their warranty service is good if something does happen).
Cheers 'Wit'. Never heard of Superstar. I'll look those and Nukeproof up on the net. I've now read over a dozen reviews stating the noise from the Hopes drives people mad!!
Pro II proved VERY useful when touring, in countries where stupid pedestrians aren't aware of anything unless it's revving an underpowered engine and blaring horns at them - just back off the pedals for a couple of seconds, they instantly turn and look, then move out of the way.
Pro IIs here too, two years in and no bother with them whatsoever. As already said, useful for getting folk to shift out of the way, I don't mind the noise personally. Be nice if it sounded more like a CK hub though.
If you're looking for quiet MSP then the DT240 fits the bill. You can hear a dull click when it's on the workstand but out on the trail it's barely audible. At the price tho the ProII's a good hub.
New model XT and XTR hubs with oversized axles seem to be suffering a lot of axle failures. The 36 point engagement on the hubs is a massive improvement on the 16 point they used to have (I can't use 16 point hubs anymore after them), but they're no longer reliable .
I've been running a Superstar hub since about March (Replacing a new model XTR the axle snapped on) and it's amazing so far (Several hundred miles on - no performance issues, no bearing play, no skipping etc.). Be warned though - it sounds like bees - just like Chris king, pretty loud, but not as loud as a Hope with clean ratchet pawls or a Ringle hub, but way cheaper and way more engagement points
