As the weather is decidely wet and is likely to stay this way until end of next spring I need a new cycling jacket - looking at spending £80-120, must be waterproof, breathable and comfy when under a camelbak. Polaris and Endura or Gore offerings seem fave at the moment, what do you lot recommend ?

 Arc'teryx Alpha SV...it's the sex
Arc'teryx Alpha SV - £300!!! I would try and get something with event rather than gore tex as it's more breathable

BHB - isn't that a mountaineering jacket rather than mtb specific?
But Arc'teryx kit is supremely amazing kit...rounded sewn edges to prevent wear 50% narrower seam tapes and they invented the reversed waterproof zipper. Seriously their kit is utterly amazing...thankfully I got mine from the sales rep's promo tester bag BHB - isn't that a mountaineering jacket rather than mtb specific? Ahh, yeah I kinda negleted to read further than 'decent waterproof'

eVent over Gore here too - had a paclite that made me melt but got a Gill Prospeed eVent jacket to replace it & have been very pleased with it. (the one that kept me bone dry int' Peaks BHB)

Endura Event jacket has done me very good service over the last year and a bit, I live and ride in the lakes so its had a good testing ground. The one thing I would mention is I tend to find I get very cold very quickly when I stop, its not so bad when I have a fleece on as well as a jersey.

I've a Lowe Alpine Triple Point and it's great (actually got it from TK Maxx) not sure if its what you'd call cycling specific as there are no rear pockets or droptail of which to speak. I've always rated Triple Point as one of the better coated waterproofs.

Gill Prospeed was voted one of the best jackets in the most recent WMB................er, a friend told me.
I can vouch for the endura event jacket. It's the jack russells brussels.
Looks like Endura's are fav BM wet weather wear then.

hiya, im currently a huge fan of a company called "Paramo" the materials they use are very different to most but hugely effective. on the bike i use the "velez" model which is brilliant. it uses nikwax anology waterproofing which hasent failed me yet. well worth the suprislingly hight price of £160

I had a Karrimor paclite jacket a few years ago, boil in the bag and not totally waterproof unless its treated with DWR.Its now given up the ghost completely and I hardly used it. Using an Altura Reflex jacket with React fabric,I used it for 2 hours in a good downpour last week and I was just a bit clammy,I was thrashing it on the road bike though so it was expected.Really pleased with it and I think its a much better jacket than the paclite I had.

Not Goretex! Go for eVent or as above, Paramo, which are not cycle-specific but amazing for breathability as they don't have a waterproof membrane, unlike Goretex and eVent.
The paramo gear is quite hot, not really suitable for cycling, its most effective in very cold conditions. Check out the montane offerings, I although not cycle specific they have some features such as a drop tail, and you don't pay the cycling premium ££ for them.
