According to the article I read, the car was parked just yards away from the £300,000 new purpose built kennels

I would prefer for this to be reported AFTER they have investigated.  Untill then it is a nonsense.

I find it hard to believe that this is a clear cut matter of a dog handler leaving dogs alone in a hot car for long enough that they died (However quick).  If it is i think it borders on the equivelant of holding a gun to their heads which would be equally unbelievable.

Wait for the findings then hang him out to dry

Not sure about that Hobo....I think the only viable excuse would be for the owner to have dropped dead or at least unconcious or taken captive!

There cannot be any reasonable excuse for the owner, who could have notified anyone in the police station of the situation at some point.

I do admit though it's a mystery as to how they could have allowed it to happen.

I agree with Hobo, wait for some facts.

At the moment this is a sensationalist headline but there are two sides to every story.

I have ready the thread about this over on Outdoorsmagic.  I think a couple of the guys on there are experienced dog handlers within forces/police.  They seem to be indicating the guy has no excuse but i just cant see how something like this could happen.  Its the equivelant of me leaving my kids in the car.

I still think press should back off on these type of stories untill enquiries are made.  It turns it into a no win situation.

1) The police investigate and there are found to be circumstances which have not be reported and the guy is cleared - Result - Public hate the police for 'covering up'

2) Police jump all over the guy for mistake - Result - Public hate police for killing dogs and we get hundreds of new rules for dog care in the force

3) Press wait for balanced review and report findings.  We say wow and move on.

3 sides, the dog handlers side, elaborated as he`s got plenty of time till hes interviewed by the RSPCA,

What the media printed, that the dogs died, this is true,

Thirdly the actual truth, but will rarely be shown to be the truth.

Sorry to bring up this sad thread again, but I read yesterday that the Policeman (can I say that??)responsible, is being prosecuted by the RSPCA and is currently on compassionate leave.

It transpired that he wasn't taken captive or indeed dropped dead, but in fact popped into the police station for a few moments and 'got waylaid'. When he returned to his vehicle, they were dead!

No further comment required........from me anyway!

4 sides.  Don't the dogs get a say?  Oh hang on...

Obviously the Guy is on Compassionate Leave because he is distraught about his mistake.

However......should he be on compassionate leave, or suspended without pay?

I read that they were prosecuting as well.  TBH they really couldnt do anything else.  If they hadnt, people would be shouting "cover up".

I still would rather wait to hear the balanced findings.  If as paul states he 'just got waylaid' then he is in big trouble.

The advice we are given by the RSPCA is dont leave dogs in a car for any length of time. I was at the Lancashire show a few years back and the police were breaking in to cars to rescue dogs and the sun wasnt even shining it was just a cloudy warm muggy day.

Why couldnt he have just put the dogs on the leads and taken them indoors someone would have looked after them for him for a few minutes(unless they were attack dogs of course) The reason he didnt of course was because he was a lazy bastard.

And you base that on what facts?

Wait for the full story then i will help you hang him

I think the full story is now out.

Get the rope!

Who needs rope when there's two spare dog leads?

I base it on the fact that he has been suspended without pay and is being prosecuted by the RSPCA Also our local Fed rep said that he wouldnt represent the bastard if he begged him
