Anyone know why a company like FSA would make a higher-end headset like the Orbit Xtreme with replaceable bearings and have a crappy plastic seal at the bottom. I found that the plastic piece had broken and needed replacing - guess what FSA don't sell this as a replacement part!!! I wonder why - oh yes - to repair this I have to buy a new headset - what a complete waste of money. I am off to look at other brands - beware what supposedly top brand parts you buy!!!!!

The 6807 replacement bearing is £5 on e-bay,just knock the old bearing out and replace with a new one then use a Lizard skin headset neoprene cover on the lower race to help keep the muck out.

Oh I love forums, give the guy a break BHB - okay I agree the FSA isn't "high end" but with the price these companies charge for some bits and with some of the bike magazines rated it extremely high you would think they could do better job of spares etc. Not everyone can afford King or Hope stuff so I can fully understand the frustrations of Montana as how many of us have bought parts which were expensive and rated highly only to find in actual fact thy were not quite as good. I bought wheels Hope ProII hubs - absolutely great hubs but does anyone else have a headache after riding them? Does the ratchet sound have to be that loud.

 |
Loud - yes. If for nothing else than reminding your buddy in front that you are free-wheeling, while he is pedalling

David - the purpose of Montana16's post was to have a moan, hence the response it got. If the post had been more down the lines of 'this has happened to my headset, anybody got any advice..' then the response would have been different - more along the lines of Podge's post. BTW, I have proII hubs and love the sound - It's an important safety feature for my riding style - when I'm riding in a group and they can no longer hear the sound it informs them that my inevitable crash has happened and they may need to go back and scrape me off the trail

Mike he didn't say "high end" he said "higher-end" and as its not much cheaper than a Hope unit http://www.bikemagic.com/review/reviewProductStartDisc/mps/rpn/1070/prod/FSA-Orbit-Xtreme-Headset/rcn/83/rgn/5/sp//v/4 FSA do make headsets into the over £100 area so I wonder if you can get parts for them? I would agree with him that its very annoying parts are not available, its possible that a bearing supplier might have a plastic snap ring that would fit. Probably a good reason to go for something like a Hope as the parts are easy to get, that or something like an XLII which are dirt cheap and last fairly well.

Sorry Alx my mistake I didn't relaaise that you wern't allowd to have a moan in here.
