Seems like a plausibly good product, outta my price league though. Nearly by a whole magnitude.

I was actually aware of them previously, you may be pleased to hear, but I wouldn't use them, partly because of the ludicrous price! Ohh shit man. You have some serious problems now mate. If Nick Evans is saying something is overpriced, it must be unbelievably overpriced us meer mortals havent got a chance. I read your speel about the manufacturing process and my main thoughts were, THEY ARE ONLY CABLE OUTERS!!!! Christ, i change mine once a year and basic shimano (XTR if they are on offer) does the job perfectly well. I have tried all the flak jackets etc etc and always come to the same conclusion. NOT WORTH THE MONEY

220 EUROS.... For f**king CABLE OUTER....????!!!!!!!! Comedy like that should be taken on tour....!!!

Haha! My reputation precedes me!
I take what you say about the quality of the materials used and such, but I outright fail to believe they will last forever and be the sort of item you transfer between bikes. If nothing else, they're not fully sealed, so they'll get full of crap and go gritty, just like any 'normal' set up. King headsets are expensive, but they do last 15 years, I don't believe these cables will, I'm more than happy to try a set out, and I'll change my tune if I think they're that good. FWIW I use Power Cordz with Alligator I-links, and I've tried Nokons and all the other things out there, so I'm not totally ignorant of the technology.

The scale of diminishing returns...at £160 over the price of XT cables I'd expect them to do something pretty miraculous

I'd love to know how many sets he's sold.

LOL @ the comparison the CK headsets. A CK headset is only £115 FFS.

I've been using the same prototype set for 3 years now. All that's needed is to change the liner + outer wrap (and I haven't even done that). The ceramic bits aren't likely to wear out in a hurry. You know what, I hear you with the price and that they're just not worth it. You're 100% entitled to your own opinion. What is the problem though? About all that I can think of is that I stand guilty of manufacturing something expensive during a global financial crisis... But hell, just today I found myself in a scenario where I was flying back down a twisty descent the Northern coast of Tenerife. I was probably going about 30 or 40km/hr in the apex of this one right hand bend, leaning over and really getting into it... and guess what? A car was parked right in the middle of my lane waiting for road works! No signs - nothing! I barely had any time to react or straighten up, much less think "WTF??!" Jammed on the brakes (I'm running 2009 Veloce levers with FSA K-Force brakes), there was plenty of modulation and was able to swerve and miss the car, pulling up half way alongside and still within my side of the road, all within very little time/distance indeed. I had that much control. Dare I say it, but with normal shimano housing, I think I would have panicked and ran up the back of the car... Now I know what you're all thinking: "WTF is this guy preaching. hahaha LOL". I'm not trying to sell you anything, I'm just sharing a little story of what happened to me not even 1 hour ago. Things like this almost never happen, but when they do, it stops and makes you think. Anyway, despite all what I've written, it's pretty clear from most of your comments that I'm spending my time in the wrong place here... Take care mateys!

Gosh people are so damn rude these days. Monkey Space Pilot (El Capitan) wrote (see) Did any of us put a gun to your head and force you to move to those sunny tax free islands? What gave you that impression?
The North is often cloudy and they are definitely not tax free.

 Did you forget something?

I forgot to say: "thank you for 9 exceptional comments on your behalf"

If you forgot to say it then why 'quote' yourself?

I'm just not convinced why anyone would buy your ceramic housings compared to much cheaper I-links or Nokons. I strongly dislike your way of flogging your wares on the forum too. If I was leaning over in the apex of a corner and grabbed a handful of brake (even with discs!) I'd expect to either end up on my face or on the other side of the road because the bike's stood up. I've never ever thought 'crikey, if only my brake housing compressed less' you can lock a road brake up with stock cables, that's a crap USP you've got...
|
 |
Actually Nick, that is not the USP or Unique Selling Point (sorry I had to look up that acronym as I didn't study marketing or design or business... I studied Materials Science instead) I'm not about to spout out all the selling points here as then I will be accused of spamming... and as I said on page 1 that was never my intention. How was I to know that the threads posted in the cable housing section would end up in the general "kit" forum? I like the way people in the bike industry automatically disregard anything not made of one of the following materials: - 6061-T6 or 7075-T6 aluminium
- Carbon fibre composite
- 6Al/4V Titanium
- Chromoly 531 / 853 / 953
A pretty lamo selection in my point of view...

There isn't a 'cable housing' section you twonk

I like the way people in the bike industry automatically disregard anything not made of one of the following materials: Like the hundreds of products with ceramic bearings for instance.

Dean - How can you justify the prices you charge for your cable housing? I accept that the materials may be superior to those currently in use, but is the current crop of aftermarket cable housing available for A LOT less money really that bad that people will be persuaded to buy yours? Nah, didn't think so. And all that waffle about you being able to swerve to avoid a car, just because you had your special cable housing equipped - Do you REALLY think that the fact that your housing might be a little bit more compression-resistant than others made that much difference? I mean, fair play for being able to stay aboard the bike and not ending up on your arse, or through the back of the car, but I think that was more to do with your ability than your cable housing! I'm sure there's a market for your housing somewhere - Try the people with more money than sense.
