Hello,

Just wondered if any of you knew about vertebrae ceramic cable housing?

The linky doesn't work fella, much like the cable housing.  Stick with Shimano stuff.

Okay, so I'm busted.

I was actually trying to find bikemagic's contact info so that I could send them the info and/or a set to review...  and I kinda got side-tracked.

Anyway, we'll let bikemagic/RoadCyclingUK be the judge of whether they work or not.

Oh and in my defense, the original thread was aimed at the cable housing review section, not any kind of general forum. See here:

Not polite to call people 'dim' though is is?

On the plus side at least he isn't called "qumadi panda" and peddling %50 off Nike handbags or whatever we usually get.

True, but then he wouldn't have been as easy to associate with the ceramic cables

Unemployment in my current region (Canary Islands, Spain) has recently reached 55%.

Would you lot rather me join the dole queue?

Oh but I'm sorry, I'm not even entitled to do that...

I don't like the website, the graphs are very pretty, but what the fcuk is shown by a graph compaing the Vertebrae cables to Carbon composite, silicon nitride, or zirconia?

If you must have graphs and try to hawk your wares using science then go for a graph showing the weight of your housing compared to: Shimano SP-41, Nokon, Alligator I-Links etc.

I was actually aware of them previously, you may be pleased to hear, but I wouldn't use them, partly because of the ludicrous price!

The price is that high because the material I have chosen to make it from is costly. I doubt the price will come down any time soon, because these things are made of high-purity aluminum oxide, dry pressed and then fired at high temperatures for long periods of time. I think the price is extremely reasonable in comparison to mass-produced metal parts (whose material & manufacturing costs are much less). Let me put it this way: it would probably cost me less to make these bits out of high-grade Titanium. Not only that, but the current RRP doesn't leave room for a typical distribution chain (otherwise they'd be twice as much, which would then be astronomical)

People don't complain [now] about Chris King headsets being expensive, do they? No, because it's the sort of part you install and forget about. Some people even opt to take their headset with them from bike to bike. Same with this. But unlike a headset for example, I'm pretty sure you'd notice when a set of vertebrae lines are installed on your bike.

It's funny because many people are prepared to fork out the money for Campagnolo Super Record / Sram Red / Di2 shifters derailleurs and brakes, rave about their performance level -when in reality they're not much different from Chorus, Force and Ultegra (for example)- and then go and connect all those very parts with the same sort of housing that is found on a Kmart bike.

I agree they are not cheap and they are certainly not for everybody. Nevertheless, I know that some people are prepared to pay the asking price, because I have already sold several complete sets recently...

some things just work, sp41 and xtr inners are such things, it doesn't matter how much you spend its not going to improve performance.
