I seriously believe Foes make the ugliest bikes in history...I mean how can you f__k up a commuter?

Actually I'd gladly have the FXR but that commuter does look a bit odd with the massive headtube gussetty monocoque type thingy ...
Mike D - when are you going to get a test ride on an FXR or something? The last test I can find of any of them was MBR on the 07 FXR. It'd be interesting to see if the Foes preferred simple frame / fancy shock design still spanks the pants off the usual complicated frame / simple shock setup on most bikes. Can't say I can quantify the ride of the Curnutt shock but I do know that I find myself going downhill at uncomfortably quick speeds much sooner than I ever expect to..
You got your shock from IWH then?
*sigh* I paid the very nice man at Balfa £120 to fix it and then a further £60 and part-exchanged air curnutt for a Ti spring. So I now have a fully working, as-new , ti-coiled Curnutt on the FXR (but no forks for it)

Sorry, I didn't mean to drag up painful memories

you do have say that's the ugliest set of bikes.
Like Cannondales I find it hard (impossible) to feel any excitement for an aluminium frame with a hinge in the middle. All the sophistication of a door with an anti-slam mechanism.
I think you've kind of missed the point of foes John - tis the fab super duper curnutt shocks that make them very interesting to ride. . ,
the fxr descends like a 7 or 8 inch dh bike yet you can stamp on the pedals and climb with virtually no bob (and not having to flick a lock out)- really does climb like a hardtail. .
Other single pivot bikes however - meh
 shouldn't that be climbs like a "35lb hardtail" ?
ahem its down to 33.5lbs now! (actually currently well under 30 as missing forks!) Yes tis a bit heavy but then again you could still lighter forks than 36's on it. Tbh I doubt foes have the performance advantage that they used to have as suspension designs /shock technology has come a long way in recent years . .
shouldn't that be climbs like a "35lb hardtail" ?hahahaha
I agree that a good shock can make a single pivot ride well. The Scott Ransom is another bike that manages downhill very well but cimbs OK, though you do have to press a button. The Foes is a lot of money though, If I were spending that much Nicolai would get my money.
they certainly are very pricey indeed. . . And klunk- since balfa worked their magic mine is no longer a full time hardtail!
Other single pivot bikes however - meh My 1998 Heckler has 100mm of travel from a 50mm stroke shock, so the whole 2:1 thing isn't exactly unprecedented
Not as controlled as a curnutt though Mike??
Other single pivot bikes however - meh I like mine, a lot. Mind you, I quite like a couple of Foes too.
So without a really fancy shock the frame is essentially just a but ugly frame that doesn't work well?
