I always fing JG's anti-Lance/Trek/USA rants amusing. You should write a book John, I'd buy it. Honestly. Spesh patented something that's been on the go since James Watt and chase after people who infringe - that's sharp business practice innit?

 I won't buy a Trek because they're fucking ugly.

I blame the American patents office for being stupid enough to give Horst his patent Timmy. Specialized paid for it and as it doesn't apply in Europe I'm not that bothered. The whole bicycle patents situation is a mess so I'm not going to blame the companies but the patents offices. All that I write about Armstrong and Trek is plagiarised. I could do one on the US I suppose but they've been done already - the "Horrible Histories" series for example. I've reduced my American alert level since Obama took over from Bush but it's recently gone up to 6 from 5 as the situation on the ground hasn't changed. At 6 buying American products is acceptable but only in moderation. I recently bought a Sun-Ringlé hub! On the FS bikes front I really need to try some now. The Anthem and X-control appeal but 41 is a couple of cms smaller than I'm used to so I need to at least sit on them. There's also the mass of cheapo German four bars to wade through. I must wear SPD shoes the next time I go out with the club so I can try some without skidding around on the pedals.

 How about a Pronghorn?

I didn't choose badly , I actually chose carefully because Lapierre is a bike company that you consider OK to deal with and they are French . Chiotti won the worlds with the help of EPO , stood on the rostrum and took the glory , he admitted being a regular " doper " and he was , I believe also implicated in some sort of cheating that allowed Martinez to win the French national championship , and again he's French .

You're trying to turn this into a xenophobic Frenchman thing Neil. Read back to my first my reply to your question about what "crime" Trek had committed. Lapierre have never blackmailed the last winner of the Tour to have possibly won it clean, Greg Lemond, or any other rider for that matter. Trek have. There are some situations in which you have to take sides if you want to remain credible. Either you think Armstrong and Trek are evil, or you think Lemond is evil or you think they are all three evil. I have opted to think Armstrong and Trek are evil on the basis of a decade of evidence, but still have a high regard for Greg Lemond (and the nice people at Lapierre in Dijon and especially Jérôme Chiotti).

I've reduced my American alert level since Obama took over from Bush That just shows a childish level of naivety regarding politics.

but it's recently gone up to 6 from 5 as the situation on the ground hasn't changed. Complete sentences if you quote me please. I suppose you failled to notice a hint of tongue in cheek parody in the reference to alert levels. Childish certainly, naive not.

Isnt this what you should be using JG ?

It's interesting they felt the need to write the names on. There are plenty of others helping them to lift the hand on the clock.

What about a BMC fourstroke? Swiss brand and VPP.

There's a local shop that sells BMCs Stevey, they sponsor the club so maybe I should try one. A Fox/Manitou fork and SRAM both put me off compared with Marz/Rockshox and Shimano. The one in your pic seems to have a Rockshox fork and Fox shock - a combination I'd be happy with but that I haven't seen before on a BMC. I'll ask the guy how little he can do one for after he's had a few drinks at the club dinner. Edit: the sizes don't suit. The 15" is too small and the 18" is 595mm long. Too much bike for me.

Is there nothing between 15 and 18? Mentalness!
|
 |
BMC sizes It's nearer 15 1/2 and 17 1/2 and doesn't look quite as bad in cm. Unusually long in the smaller sizes and only a 110mm head tube on the smallest. When I tried my mate's hardtail I seem to remember the BB felt high too. Edit: the rider size suggested for each size is bizarre too. Strange shaped people the Swiss obviously - according to their chart I'm borderline M/L. I know I could fit a shorterstem but I prefer the bike itself to be compact.

Long seatpost and a taller stem in the S?
|
 |
Don't know anything about Trek, don't know anyone who's got one, but What MTB rate the Trek Fuel EX 9.8 as the best of the bunch......value wise. Anyone got one?
|
 |
280mm of exposed seatpost and 3cm of spacers under the stem. No, you have to draw a line somewhere and for me it's 41cm which leaves at least 8cm of seatpost in the frame and more if the post is longer.
|
 |
280mm of exposed seatpost I can't see a problem with that. Stick a 400mm post in if you want more insertion. 3cm of spacers under the stem More rise in the stem and bar if you have a spacer allergy

No, but I did test one last year & wouldn't agree with WMB let alone buy one. Far too flexy & the suspension action felt 'clumsy'.
