I broke the cable on my old computer recently and am thinking of getting a new one. Cordless seems better. I seem to recall hearing anecdotes about cordless computers giving false readings due to picking up mobile phone signals, military radio, adult chatlines etc. What do you recommend (I want to spend as little as possible really)?
I'd go for a Cateye Enduro II, which isn't cordless but is hard as nails. The cordless Cateye one I had was fine as long as it wasn't a cold day: if it was, it just stopped working. I think other people had similar experiences. They do interfere with some heart rate monitors too.
Catetye cordless ones stop working in the cold when the batteries are shot. Replace it and it works fine (even if it is a new one, probably been in the shop for ages.)
My cordless 2 has been through the washing machine twice and is fine. The mount started to get wobbly after aroun 4000 miles(original black ones) but this doesn't happen so much with the newer ones (clear plastic) Maybe because the plastic is harder. Anyway wobble is fixed by a single layer of gaffa tape inbetween computer and mount.
My Halfords 12 mode works well. It is the 3rd one I've had (the 1st never worked, the 2nd kept resetting), but returning them to the shop all the time has given me lots of spare brackets and wheel magnets. As long as the batteries are replaced every 6 months it is OK. Plus its got all the features of a £30 Cateye (it was only £20)
I bough a cateye enduro II on the recommendation of some here and I have been well chuffed with it. I got it from edinburgh cycles for 18 squids including P&P. The cable and fitting kit is top notch and the computer is easy to setup and use. bargain kit.
I got a VDO 15+ cordless. Had it for a few months now and not had a problem. Looks good, good functions, only thing it lacks is a backlight cos u cant read it when its dark.
Ran this thread a month or two ago and ended up with a Enduro II. I can only agree with the above. Superb quality, fantastic instructions and fitting kit, looks good and cheap to boot!
