OK so what is it with gloves? I've tried loads of options, cheepskate, neoprene, MTB specific, even those glorified marigold seal skins efforts. Why can't I find a glove that can cope with Yorkshire winter riding? Most seem to work OK for very specific conditions, but thats useless in UK winters. Who makes the golden glove??? Any help gratefully recieved.
99% of the time you can't beat track mist with a thermal liner under them (preferably knitted bak trackies too!). If it's WARM you want, then goretex fleece lined mittens are teh business unless you use rapidfires! (OK that probably discountsa lot of people, but I'm snug with my thumbshifters!)
"Goat God", sounds good matching helmet attatchments might help make commuting safer/more interesting. Not worried about style as I have none and my bike was recently described as pig-ugly.
Seem to remmember Terrain had some lurking near the bargain bin, maybe i'll give them a whirl. Are they able to cope with shifting OK?
also take a peek at spec bg gloves as these look good.....ive got a pair of qranc dh gloves and I find these are fine for most weather except summer as they get sweaty.....
check out army surplus stores for really thin under layer gloves (about £3 pair) and stick these under decent winter MTB gloves and you'll be fine. Layering is really effective for gloves, as hands have a large surface area of skin without any muscle or fat to keep them warm..
Me, I use Shift Ace (motorcross) gloves which are neoprene backed and I've never had cold hands. Try looking outside the bike industry for cold weather gloves, some of the motorcross and building trade gloves are really effective, cheap and still let you control brakes and shifters.
I bought some Qranc winter gloves a couple of years back (cost about £35) and they are brilliant, can't rememcber the exact name of them but they are a sort of fleecy type/neoprene sandwich constructiony type of thing (think thats accurate enough!).
They are still in near perfect condition after many winter rides, and they are bloody warm even when its cold enough to freeze your water bottle.
wanna go extreme? strapped an SLA battery to the frame and get some of those powered heater gloves for motorbikes!!! they aren't too easy to get off the bars when you leave your bike though!
