I suppose that I need one of these rather expensive devices. I have a pair of 2000 RS Sid XC, complete with the rather daft and easily loste adapter to fit a pump. I filled the shocks to 'lots of PSI' when I took delivery of the bike a year ago and haven't touched them since. I noticed recently that they were somewhat soft, so it was out with the Halfords footpump once again. However, I'm sure that there has to be a better way. Hence this thread.
Can the offending articles be used as tyre pumps as well?
hmmm.... just buy one of the raleigh (P&A)shock pumps, about £25 I think. nothing will work as well for getting the correct pressure in your forks. oh and keep the footpump, they're good for inflating chairs.
you used to be able to get them, oohh a few years back, when gel was just making an appearance. not for heavy landings. planet X stuff is for perverts and supposed to give you sores.
I have a high pressure type (up to 450psi) which I used for my Englund cartridges in Manitou 4 forks (don't get the cartridges - they are pants).
My new Z2 X-Flys only need about 40psi and the scale is not easy to read on my existing pump. I think I need a low pressure pump with a much finer scale at the bottom end.
yo basil, yeah Ive been making do with a high pressure pump on my new Z2Xflys as Im too much of a pikey to buy ANOTHER shock pump. Most on the market are high pressure, designed for rear shocks, but Marz themselves do a low pressure shock. Unfortunately they havent seen fit to include it with a fork that retails for over 350 quid...
...of course you could always pop along to On Your Bike at London Bridge and they'll sell you a nice one for £40, which is remarkably similar to the pumps that everyone else sells for £25.
Supercycles have an X-Fusion pump that reckons to do shocks and tyres, and if my Mars C does hold air when it comes back for the third time,I'll be getting one! P.S. And it's £26!!
