after falling of my compo in a nasty way she needs new bits, 8 spd chain and casstte, rear mech, stem and bars.
the best bit is that money doesn't really matter so i'm thinking an XTR mech, renthal MX bars and lots of other shiny bits, so, what should i buy, just try to keep it under £250

 Carbon Risers. A must.
nah, i'm not going to do that, does the fact that i'm about 18st and do 6' stair jumps give you an idea? my easton ea50's which were bloody strong have bent, i don't want to pay £80 on carbon bars that'll last a week.
for an 18 stone rider on a compo doing stupid stuff? you need secure bar that'll bend before they snap and stick in your face!! i think you should just get the reetard stem and bars. and don't forget, one twat on an xtr mech and you're going to be very unhappy :( it's down to xt or maybe proshift! or if your getting mx bars which are bmx size, you hould be looking for a bmx stem or a cheap 24/7 stem (although it's bloody heavy!)
wow! 34 seconds apart! i need REALLY big bars, its just one of my sick perversions and at least a 60mm stem. the bmx bit doesn't really matter as priss pringles gonna make me a shim in exchange for new world disorder on video.

how are you gonna travel through tight squeezes with tupidly large bars though? have you got muscles in the right place in you arms o cope with the new riding position?
i'll probably end up cutting them down to 29" or 30" rather than 32"
 What,your arms?
;-)
yeah, it'll save me buying a longer stem!
you can get rid of your fingers and attach anspd system to palm and bars, unless you like riding one handed. be cheaper then. gear chages will be a bitch though!
nah, there is probably a sensible width for bars that if you exceed it you will start getting caught up on things and having nasty accidents. plus your steering radius will be affected. whoops! you've got junior t's. it's already affected! if the stem is a little shorter you won't need bars as wide surely! you can tell i hate being stretched over the front of bikes!

I used Renthal MX bars on my DH bike for ages - they're indestructable but the clamp section loos a bit odd because it's so wide - plenty of space to hang lights/computer from though.
Had to cut them down a bit and one side is roughed which will need smoothing off a bit to fit the controls on.
Other than that they're great.

I'd go SRAM 9.0 for the cassette and chain, plus probably the rear mech and shifter ( note there is now a 9.0 rapid fire if you can't bear the thought of superior grip shifting ;-) ). Between XT and XTR on quality but XT price. For a jumper who's likely to trash it all again seems the sensible choice to me.

i was thinking sram but isn't 9.0 9 speed? i'd like 8 speed.
I'll be honest I'm not sure, I know I have a 7.0 shifter that's 8 speed so the number definatly isn't the number of gears. Easiest way is to check on the sram webbie. FWIW I've had no probs with the 9 speed setup even when fairly muddy ( Never had it completely muddy ). Had one minor problem but I've had that with a 7 speed - grass getting in the cogs.
