One of my mates has recently become a Giant dealer. He often has dead cheap ones out of the assembly factory - a scratch or dent or whatever knocks plenty off the price (he also sells pristine ones).
Depends where you are in the country of course - Nottingham area 0115 965 4419.
(No commission or anything for me)
I guess this kind of post doesn't help you el boufador! ;-)

 OK - I will then.
1. Constructed entirely of Coke tins. Great from the recycling point of view, not so great for cycling.
2. No need for a bell. Giant thoughtfully made the rear suspension clank over every bump. Lets the red sox know you're on your way.
3. Frame reinforced with stickers. Every square inch of the frame is plastered with stickers. Actually this is because the Coke tins these days are coming out too thin, so its the stickers that are holding it all together.
4. NRS stands for No Real Suspension. This is an important point.
5. Suspension was allegedly designed by Renault. Have you ever driven a Renault ? More than once ?
6. Giant are the biggest bike maker in the world. They make bikes for loads of people. Probably made yours. So you don't need another one, right ?
7. You score minus pimp points for a Giant. The only worse style choice is an Apollo.
8. Just cos Barrie Clarke goes fast on his, doesn't mean you'll go fast on yours. But now you won't have ant excuses.
9. Integrated headset. Going round corners destroys your frame (says Chris King) - the only options are: - every ride is a circumnavigation of the globe - you have to get off, pick it up and turn it round at every corner. It's light, so you won't get tired, but you may lose a position or two in the race
10. I might be riding one soon and you definitely don't want to be a member of any club I'm in.

*sticks fingers in ears (eyes?)* Lalalalalalalalala I'm not listening to you Mad Piere ;-)
Cheers for that Andy

Internal headset, Spencer ? Cool ! Wouldn't want my coke tin head tube getting worn away
(Note to self - if become owner of a Giant, and win Lottery, have entire frame painted to look as if its really made out of Coke tins. )

Apology for unattractive model (my mate Sid).

Ignore the Chris King FUD on internal headsets. They've signed up to the 1.5" standard for exactly the opposite of the reasons they use against internal/integrated headset frame design. Bandwaggon and jump.
After reading that piece of misinformation they have on their site, I won't ever be buying Chris King kit. I really am that cross.
|
 |
Chris king only diss it because the only reason people buy their headsets is to have the name KING onntheir bikes...on internal headsets it will be hidden.
THe NRS is a great bike...yeah the tubes are thin, i have two dents in mine, the shock really needs to be set up right..mine is now leaking air from the negative chamber, the pivots are spot on, just replaced the bushings near the droputs (£15 and 5 minutes) noticable flex in the rear if you stomp on your gears
I will not buy one again simply because every bike manufacturer is hopping on to the no bob FS and I am looking at the santy cruz blur....but at £650 for the frame and shock....its a great bike.

The only real problem that I have had with mine is the cables/hoses fouling the frame and rubbing off the paint. More worrying is the rear hydraulic hose starting to wear because of this contact.
|
 |
Ahhhhhh, don't slag it off, I have just bought one yesterday (after loads of research) and am building it up.
Hoping to get it out at the weekend. Those tubes are mighty large and mighty thin. I even need a new front mech 'cos my old one won't fit.
From building it up I can't see how the headset is a bad thing. Will let you know as I ride it.

Neil, wrap a bit of innertube around the hose in the wear area and stick with insulating tape, works a treat.
Andy, you wont regret getting one, Ive had mine for two years and the only thing Ive had go wrong is the frame. Heh Heh.
No seriously it was an early XTC DS2 and Giant gave me a spangly XTC Team frame as a replacement.
Other than that and the odd creaking pivot, which is easily rectified Ive had no problems. I use mine for XC, Touring and the occassional commute and am still well happy with it. As for set up, follow the instructions in the book. Headset problems, never heard of them. Mines still good with greasing every 6 months.
|
 |
Very happy with my XTC nearly 3 years old. Trailquest and enduro 2 - 3 times a month.
They are very efficient, no bob. Went through a set of bushes in 18 months but not surprizing after two winters of riding. I also like the rear shok being up out of the mud rather than the Spec FSR XC and Enduro design.
I would rather have a normal headset so I could upgrade.
Anyone upgraded/recommend an alternative?

All right chaps - noone say anything nasty about the NRS cos :
MI BIK IS JYUNT
If I can just work out how to get the pedals back on, I might even try it out.
|
 |
Welcome to the fold. OK guys, should well tell him the truth now?
|
 |
Woops - that should read "we tell"
|
 |
If what you were going to tell me was:
"This bike handles much better than your previous one and also has a wonderful sens of stability at speed. You will find that going round your local loop, you're no faster than before, but now you'll be painfully aware that it's only your own abilities, and more especially lack of fitness, that's holding you back from scorching along"
Then don't bother - I found that out for myself
