Eion, looking through the RAW marketing catalogue for 2003, AVID are doing Road Mechanical Disc brakes designed with STi levers in mind. Same price as standard AVIDS - ie. almost hydro prices, almost hydro performance. £89.99 UK GBP

Hope that helps - no pun intended.

wasn't that mentioned in his earlier post? goto www.avidbikes.com (or www.avid-bikes.com, whatever)and you'll find the roady ones, they look more silver (if i remember right) and they have been around before they changed the mtb one to three (more expensive) versions!

Cheers Chris!
As it turns out, Hope USA still had some of the road converters for Hopes. Apparently they don't work to well, but will work better with C2s than with O2s. We'll see.

Hmmmm, I wonder if Hope USA have any torsion arms still...?

Hmm,
I've got a problem talking to my local bits and bobs supplier, they are all Dutch and bloody unhelpful. I need to know a little about these Avid disc brakes. I have the last Clockwork Orange frame 1" Headset with 93 LX bits and XTthumbies and levers from my last destroyed clockwork. Can I fit disc brake without buying new levers? Also, no-one over here wants to sell me anything remotely like front sus forks. Dutch Dogs.

avids work best with adjustable levers

i have used them with avid speed dial levers (SD5) and get the best performance out of them, however have also used diatech DP9 levers which have two positions of lever pull ratio and heard off people using LX levers with the couple of positions on them.

basically, if you don't have adjustable levers you will never get the best out of them and could end up spending time stopping and reaching back to adjust the pads via the external dials on an occasional basis (the pads are hardwearing though, better than other brands)

i'm using a rear avid with a crappy promax non-adjustable lever at the moment and braking is spongy and not accurate at all, but it suffices!!

Thak you Mr Destructo, I will be asking santa for some V-brakes instead. I probably need adjustable levers for them as well so I will just stick to jamming my foot on tyre and frame like the old days when brakes were for whimps.

I have just been laughed out of the shop. Stupid Nederlander brakeless swines have never seen a hill let alone tried to stop on one.
The only Speed Dial they know here is to the local coffe shop for emergency drugs. Who will help me obtain needless maximum brakage for this flat cuntry, and a 1" set of sus forks?

Good work Joe! After months of sitting around waiting for someone to do the legwork for me, you turn up and deliver what looks like the perfect shop in which to spend money on parts I dont need. Thanks. You are truly decisive, for others. Probably.
