What kind of wear rate are people getting ? I've had to change pads after a three and a half hour ride.

Which brakes? which pads? what conditions?
If you are 20 stone, using hydraulic disks, with soft EBC greens or such like, very sandy/gritty conditions, and lots of scarey downhill bits. 3.5 hours...i think you did well! :)

even in the conditions stated above.
3.5 hours to get through a set of pads does sound a bit quick.

did you let go of the brake at any stage??

Using Hope mini standard pads.
We can get through a set in 4 rides. About 80-100 miles.
Changed to Hope sintered pads for this shitty weather.
They double the life time of the pads and cost £1 more per set.

I've got the EBC Golds. They have lasted me about 200 miles in bad conditions.
Is it true that EBC actually make the Hope sintered pads?

Henry: Have you noticed any lack of power using Hope's sintered pads? (double the life, but less bite?)

cheers
used ebc gold in a rear deore cable disc brake, the oem ones lasted about 8 miles off road. got 250 miles out of the ebc gold pads. the difference in power wasn't noticeable being the first year product caliper. the ebc pads got eaten away from the outside to the inside scarily but they were an excellent investment considering.

Sorry, I posted this under the Magura Julie heading so didn't bother with any more information. I'm 104 kg and got through a set of pads on the front of a Jekyll 700 on a 40 km off road and muddy ride between Reading and Stoke Row in the Chilterns.

I've put the question to Magura and they've asked about the bedding in. They think the brakes need to be bedded in properly with 30*20 mph stops on the road before going off road. I put the new pads on last night so I'll go out on the road tomorrow and then try them off road on Sunday.

I've had a similar rapid wear. Just got new pads, have you found the bedding in has helped?
