I'm trying to order caps to replace the canti bosses on my Fow Float but there are two sizes - 10 & 8 (mm?) - anyone know what size I need for the fork er, forx?
Thanks,
Matt

Sorry, don't know the size, but want to get some, where'd you find them?

Steve -
They're available on Wiggle and Chain Reaction - about £2 for 2 from DMR, Upgrade and M:Part - X-Lite ones are 5 times more expensive, of course! Check under Brakes - Disc on Wiggle.
I might just buy both sizes and see which fit. I emailed Santa Cruz about the bosses on the rear of my frame - they were really quick about getting back to me and telling me the size - M8 x 1.25 (which I take as the 8mm) for a SC Blur if anyone else out there cares!
If you wanna wait (and have the Fox Float, I'll let you know which set fit...
I've gotta ask - what the heck is going on in that picture in your profile? It looks like you're in a bubble bath with a top hat on - is that the business?
Talk to you later!

Ok, it's easy to check. Take out the canti posts if they are currently in the fork, and measure the diameter of the screw thread. If it is nearly 8mm then you want the M8 version, if it's nearly 6mm you want the M6 version. Simple really :) Easiest way to measure accurately is to measure the diameter with a ruler across the end face.

sorry, obviously that should have been 10mm not 6mm and M10 not M6 lol

It's Dudley Moore in Arthur Matt, not me! Actually never thought about the the frame (SC Superlight), I just unscrewed the bosses and left it at that, was thinking more for the Fox Forxs. If they are that cheap from wiggle then I think I'll get some. Have you tried to get the bosses off your Forx? I couldn't get them to budge!

sheesh! time to get some new glasses!
I haven't messed with the bosses on the fork yet, wanted to have something to fill the spot before I tried to pull 'em out.
I'm away from home & the bike this week, but I'll give it a go this weekend. Let me know if you find any super secret way to get the bosses out!

Well if you can't get them out there's not much point spending money on the things to fill the whole isn't it? Or am I missing something? ;-)
Use a good quality non-adjustable spanner of the appropriate size, and they'll come out with a bti of a heave. They will be stiff at first as blue ('permanent') grade loctite is normally used.

They are 8mm on the Fox Floats, the same size as the Superlight bosses.

 Yep 8mm.

Just a little cautionary tale; Be very careful when installing whatever blanking bolts you end up with. I managed to break the top off an X-Lite 8mm, leaving the sheared bolt about 3mm inside the rear canti hole on my frame! LUCKILY I'd greased the bugger before insertion (!) so a fretful few minutes scratching a new "thread" into the bolt enabled me to get it back out with a screwdriver. Perhaps due to some risidual Locktite as mentioned earlier, the bolts were really tight all the way in, so I guess it'd be possble to shear them at any point (or slip with the old Allen key and round it). I dunno, maybe it was just my frame being a bit odd (it is a 'Dale after all!) so maybe it won't be an issue for most people? Oh and another thing, although stupidly over-priced, at least the X-Lites have a nice wide diameter head, which covers the whole boss area much more effectively IMHO (especially on rear bosses) than the DMR version for example. Trauma over. Looks good.

Alternatively Halfords sell little bags of black plastic "trim clips" which fill the M6/M8 hole very nicely and IMHO look better than the big ally ones.
You might need to put a few turns of PVC tape round them for a really snug fit.
~£2 for 10 or so...

Got the DMR ones on Friday and fitted them today after purchasing a small spanner that finally managed to get the bosses of the Forxs. Needed a bit of force but once they shifted and I stopped swearing after punching the spokes they came off quite easily. Looks much neater without them, they really bugged me before!
