Need a little help finding a Bike storage solution.
I live in a first floor flat where the front door is on ground level so I have a stair case that leads up to the actual flat, obvious I know, but bear with me.
The layout of the flat means that there is a big drop from the main corridor in the flat to the front door, I won’t try and describe the exact layout, but the important thing is that the space would be perfect for storing a bike, it would in effect be 12 + feet off the ground, leaving plenty of clearance over the stairs, I just need some sort of clever storage solution.
…but mounted on the wall rather then the roof, and if it could cope with two bikes rather then one, and was available from a UK retailed rather then US I would be a very happy camper (or cyclist). Can anyone help?
Get a pulley, stick some rope with a couple of hooks on it, and attach the pulley to the roof over the wall upon which you want to store the bikes.
Buy one of those cheap hangers that bolt to the wall, and hook the handlebars of the bike to the pulley, pull it up, guiding it all the way, and just let it settle into place high up, tie off the rope and bingo!
Then when you want to take the bike off, you have two options: release the rope, and hit your bike hard until it falls off the wall (and onto your head - bad!), or pull the bike up off the hook with the rope, and lower it down.
Simple pully system and either have a stick to push the bike over the hangers on the wall or use a rope, will depend on space etc as to which is best. Make sure you use good quality rope with proper spliced ends and either use loops to hold the bike, over handlebars and saddle or use quick release clips, a visit to local hardware shop should give you a good choice.
so you want something like that link you posted, but which attaches to the wall? Do you want the bike to hang horizontally like in your pic, or vertically like in pie eaters suggestion?
Pie Eater, I rhink the inovations one was on TV a while back some keen cyclists had invented it but were having a bit of a job to get it marketed, think they were at a show somewere, seems like a good idea though.
I am looking for something that will hang the bike horizontally, like in my picture, but wall mounted. I really didn’t think it would be this difficult to find something, I’m now beginning to think finding something for two bikes will be even more of a mission then one.
Gary,
Do you know if B&Q have the item you mentioned on their website, I have had a quick look but I couldn’t find any mention of bike storage.
The best I can come up with at the moment is a “Hang up Holder” from http://pendle-eng.co.uk with a pulley and a double hook to hold the cross bar horizontally.
