I've just suffered a broken spoke for the first time, by the hub. This is the first time this has happened to me so can some kind soul tell me if I need a complete rebuild with new spokes or can I get away with a just one spoke (if bike shops do that). Any help much appreciated!

On the whole you should be fine to get away with one spoke
You might wanna check the hub and the rim where the spoke broke to make sure its not a sign of any other sort of failure.
also make sure that all the other spokes are in reasonable nick.
Failing that if you wanna be 100 % sure take the wheel to your LBS for a rebuild with new spokes. Shouldnt cos more than about £20

I busted two after a bad stack, and thought the rim was bent and a rebuild needed, but in the end the LBS replaced the spokes and trued the wheel and it cost me £5

I was relieved
