ok, good classic question here.

what rim brakes? i have just built up and old frame (singlespeed) and it has no disk mounts. currently it has an old set of XTR V's and they suck!

so, question is, V's (and which) or maguras!? (and which)

Avid SD7 V's mind you Magura HS11's are the same price. No, for full retro single speed action it needs to be V's
Avid Arch Rivals if you're wanting cable operated, or for the ultimate in low-maintenance HS 33s would mean not have to worry even about cables, but in my experience (from quite a few years ago so my memory could be a bit jaded) HS33s can be a bit grabby, sort of on or off with nothing in between.
Or laternatively we could all discuss it next weekend :o)

Hello Ste

I think you are suffering from Post Disk Brake Where The F*ck are My Brakes Syndrome!! - all v's are pants after you've been using discs for a while!

The best one's i've found are the Arch Rivals as Si said, loads better than my XT ones.

Whatever you get, make sure you have good pads. Best I've found is Koolstop dual compund cartridge pads. One bit cleans the rim while the other bit grips hard. Use them on my hack with Deore brakes and they are the best investment I made for that bike. Don't compare to discs in modulation or the wet but at least they have some bite compared to the stock Shimano pads.
