Anyone used one? QR or bolted? I'm taking the hardtail up to the lakes, I can't use a normal rack because of the discs, but I certainly don't want the rack to turn on the seatpost into my spokes...
www.oldmanmountain.com sell racks designed for hardtails with disks. I haven't tried them but they look a much lighter and more stable option than seatpost mounts.
Another option is front racks - I think Edinburgh Cycles sell racks suitable for attaching to sus forks. they are suprisingly stable so long as you are not taking too much kit. But so far as I know the Carradice SQR system is the best for lightweight touring. Blackburn make a more conventional seatpost rack - I've never used it but I've never been let down by Blackburn racks I've used in the past.
I've got a Topeak rack on my i-drive and have used it for over a year with no problems. I have not had it try to turn on the seatpost, even with taking a couple of spills. It's a wuick release type that I have put a bolt in to try to keep it from being nicked. It is a little limited in carrying capacity, about 20kg.
