I am thinking of putting either some 105mm Marathons or RC 38's on an Ellsworth Truth, is the Marzocchi too tall for the frame, I know there is a max limit for the skewer to crown length. Any thoughts on difference in performance?
interesting thread this - I want to put 100mm forks on my mount vision quad, and the two that appeal the most are the pace and the marathons - i would be very interested in people's opinions as neither are cheap. I intend to use them for cross country, enduros and all day rides - i am not too concerned about weight, I have atoms on the front at the mo' so both will be light enough i think
My mate had the Marathons on his superlight from new - he hated them, dunno why just couldn't get on with them - and went for the new carbon hollowtech pace ones - (coil) - he loves them.
I just bought the Marathons for my Airborne after considering them and the Pace RC36 lockouts, the only thing they don't have is a handlebar lockout, but hey, how far away is your fork? They are so supple, a little stiff out of the box as you would expect, but they are loosening up nicely, oh yeah, the pearl finish looks great too! I went for these instead of the Pace because having asked around my usual shop and others, they hadn't a clue about Pace servicing, but they all knew Marzocchi inside out, if you live in Birmingham there isn't a Pace authorised dealer (or SRAM for that matter).
Marathons are more heavily discounted online than the Pace's. UkBikeStore do Marathon SLs for £345 but I think the cheapest I've seen Pace forks for is 10% off retail (£400 quid for the air forks with lockout) at Wiggle.
"the only thing they don't have is a handlebar lockout, but hey, how far away is your fork?"
I have the old(er) 2000 Pace Airforce forks. I find handlebar mounted remote lockout a real boon. I wouldn't want to faff about leaning forward all the time and throwing myself off balance and (maybe) interupting pedalling to get the benefit of locked out forks. With it on the handlebars its as easy and convenient as changing gear or braking.
