I have tried Race Face, Truvativ and FSA, and Shimano unfortunately outlasted all of them. Middle rings tend to wear out quick, as you use them the most. Unless someone makes a good shifting stainless steel ring? be bloody heavy though.
I have Middleburn Hardcote rings and have been very impressed. They are machined from Alu alloy, and then given a teflon coating. I have given mine a lot of abuse in terms of long, muddy rides, and they have yet to show serious signs of wear.
thanks for the help i am now after a middle burn 32t ring with slick shift and the hard core coating on. but can't find a place to buy one from. i have had a look at the list of dealers on his site. they don't stock the full range.
I have had the cycle dynamics titanium chainrings (as referred to in Ciff's post)on my two bikes for about a year and they are excellent. Still look (and shift) like new after a year's abuse.
