I've lost (well actually a close relative has lost... grr...) the original fixings for a Blackburn Mtn 1 rack that I've got for me bike - I'm off touring soon, and I'm not sure how I can fit the thing to my bike now?
Right now I'm using small bolts, but not suprisingly the nuts keep working loose. Not an ideal solution. Any ideas?
Russ - if there is enough thread to spare, put a second nut on and lock it gently to the first. The second (lock) nut prevents the first turning - needs two spanners to undo.
If not, get some shakeproof washers (serrated, like a saw tooth, around the inside of the washer) and use under the nut.
If not, try Threadlock (Model shops, B&Q sometimes) which is a resin-based fluid. Put some on the bolt threads, do up the nut over the resin. The resin acts like a Nylock to prevent the nut unscrewing. Make sure it is THREAD lock. STUD lock will glue it on permanently!!
I would avoid Superglue - it is brittle and the vibration will crack it allowing the nut to come off. If it gets into the threads ..... (see comment on STUD lock!!!!)
