bought some of these as all the mags said they were good for supporting the foot when unclipped on terrifying/highly technical sections.I cannot pedal/use the things without the cleat automatically engaging.Resorted to removing the mechanism on one side which is not ideal as the pedal is no longer balanced equally. Anyone had similiar experience? By the way if you try to do the same the pedal mech base screws are f****** tight being locked into place with thread sealant and v.easy to damage .
personaly i have never seen the trill of trowing my self down huge hills attached to a bike but i think you problem might be in technique. went seeing people who use spd's you have to un-clip and then move you feet so the are half off the peddle, then they cant clip in. On the down side you have no controle over the bike anymore.
Set the cleats quite near the front of the slot, and when you unclip move your foot forwards a little so the cleat no longer over the mechanism. I ride 545's on my bikes and that trick works with them......
remove your spikes on the front of the shoes if you have em. practice riding and clipping in , set them losser a bit and they clip in easier aswell until you learn
