Ok i have this bike lock, 4 cylinder combination, but its old and could probably be pulled apart with bare hands its so rubbish.
Therefore i am in need of getting at least one if not two decent bike locks. Just after any suggestions you guys may have had from past experience.
I guess there's two types of locks:
heavy, big strong mutha lock that is going to take a nuclear bomb to kill it. Used when you dont have to keep carrying the lock round with you
lighter type of lock that is much more acceptible to carry round long distances and still gives pretty darn good protection but not quite as good due to the weight trade off
i would say im after one of each of the above two descriptions really.
Also dont want to pay an obscene amount for a lock. that new york fahgettaboutdit thing looks sweet but at £100 a bit too pricey
The Abus website lists all their locks and gives them a security rating. Add it to your research list.
I have recently taken out new contents insurance with the Halifax and I asked them if they had a list of approved locks. They said no. Any lock will do!
I use a Steel-O-Flex to lock frame to <object> and then a wire cable to secure wheels to frame.
I use a Kryptonite KryptoLok AND KryptoFlex cable when i venture into the thieving metropolis. Very heavy to carry but they work a treat. Can't remember what they cost but i think they may have been quite expensive.
Checked out that kryptonite and read a review from someone V smegged off with it as apparently thieves have the master key. Dunno, could just be unlucky maybe?
and those abus locks look pretty damn sweet. bit pricey at 50 but if it does the job and no git is gunna nick it then could be the one
thankfully where i live, south wales, is quite out in the country and so thieving retards aren't as abundant as in a city i hope.
Abus Granite XPlus pretty much best Ulock you can get weighs in at around 600grams so not ridiculously heavy just go to toilet before going out. cant be bolt cuttered or freeze and shattered. It has the highest rating locks can get. the theives would be better of sawing through the post its locked to.
I like thesquire paramount plus i have 2 of (5 minute attack tested) they were supposed to be £69 but when i went to the till it went through at £25.99 needless to say i went back for another with in the hour ;-)
i have a kryptonite new york, krypto lok atb and 6 ft of krypto flex. Bugger to carry the lot around. even bigger bugger not to have a bike so it's worth it!
