I'm looking for a 1" quill stem, about 100mm long, 5-15 degrees rise to go on my (highly modified) Pace MXCD forks. I'm looking for something decent that can fit riser bars in - ie front loading.
Nah no joy from Syncros. I am a bit stuck wtih the forks for now (would like some Fox ones..), but my frame (a pace RC200) has a v. long 1" steerer, and nobody makes forks like that now.
I have modified the forks significantly - originally elastomer, now coil + oil damper, with increased travel. They are v. light and v. rigid - and seem to be v. strong. They have coped with riding in the Alps, and regulary get pounded at Glen Tress, so I dont really want to loose them.
One of you must have an old sycros/salsa etc stem knocing around.....
Ive tried looking at loadsa places but can only seem to find a Kalloy one that is front loading. Retails for £20, but isnt fab.
Have you thought about using a quill stem to ahead converter? Means you can choose the stem of your choice. ITM do 2. 1 is for quill to 1" ahead. The other is quill to 1 1/8" ahead. Retail for £19, but obviously add your stem to that.
Thanks Mike I'd much rather get a proper stem - not least because getting a converter adds weight. I've just been in touch with Pace and they can supply an Ahead type steerer for £25 +vat, but then I also need a stem and headset - so it all comes in expensive. If I could just get a decent stem it would be cheaper and I do like the ease (and range) of adjustment you get with a quill stem. Ive also got a rather nice Mavic headset on (7 years old and still perfect!) which I would like to keep.
Hugh, I've a Kalloy UNO quill stem, 1" diameter, 4" ctc reach, about 20° rise, silver, but one-piece clamp so not sure if a riser bar would fit but maybe worth a try.
