Hi,
I've just fitted a set to replace a squealing XT 'v'. Is it normal to have a fair amount (1-2mm) of vertical play in the levers?

You can tighten them a bit if you want to.

Not really a problem. Just tighten the nut on the pivot untill the play disapears. Make sure you can still use the levers though.

Cheers. I wasn't sure how resilient they are.
Would it be better to use one of the spare thinnest caliper shims between the lever and the body?

could do, but just tighten it up, it should be fine just hold the nylock nut under the lever in a spanner or you will be turning the alan key and gitting nowhere
