Only ridden with it a couple of times, but the reversal hasn't been a big problem. Really like the ability to move up a load of gears at a time, and clicking down appears to be much smoother then before.
Just got one (a M960) this weekend to replace my 4 year old XTR mech, So I can't yet comment on usability etc. But what I have noted however is the lack of cable adjuster screw on the mech body - what gives and why?
Ok so it makes a nice clean lines but what a pain to set up - having to keep going back to the bars to tweak it.
I had an old version of the rapid rise with rapid fire on my old raleigh 21 speed - I thought it was a pretty good system then as it changes to the lower gears (bigger cogs) easier because its using the spring rather than fighting it.
I was bit sceptical at first but now have bike with the new system. Takes a bit of time for changes to be as natural as rapid fire. I now have bikes with differing systems and occasionaly getting gear selection wrong with the new system but thats a brain thing not the design.
i changed to a rapid rise mech and it took a good few rides to get used to but overall, i do quite like it.
it must be a mind thing - but its nice when you grinding up a hill and you have to change to a lighter gear instead of having to push up, its a light simple click - just makes it feel easier.
i have found i still tend to over shift when going to a harder gear though.
