I have lost 3 sets of rear pads in the five months I have had the new 2004 Hope mini-mono's. No problem with front ! Despite checking by me and local bike shop - it looks like on very rough chalk/flint trails the R-pin can come loose, leading to the pad holding pin coming out and loss of pads - Not funny and at £14+ a set, not cheap.
It looks as if Hope have modified the holding pin as I have just got some new replacement pads and the holding pin now has now got a hole in one end that allows a new sprung split pin/clip to be inserted - which is much more secure.
If you are using unmodified pins - check them or use some fuse wire to double secure pin and clip - otherwise you may get NO-HOPE.
I've last years M4's that have a similar if not the same pin & clip. Only problem I've had is the clip can catch on clothing etc when dragging the bike out the boot. Ping followed by 20 minutes or so searching around the back of the car. Tip - keep a couple of spares. The pad retaining pin screws in so the clip is only a secondary retainer in case the pin works loose - yours the same?.
I've lost a set off the front.Typically I'd forgotten to pick up my spares & so had to swap the rears onto the front & ride the final 5Km of skyline in torrential rain with just a front brake. It wasn't fun (my mates seemed to think so. bastards!!)
i want to know why the retaining pin doesn't attach to the caliper. it just pushes through, and then sercured with the clip. on a mates E4s (i think) the retaining pin screws into the caliper. much better, even if its more fiddly to change the pads.
It's a common problem with that type of clip so suppose thats why it was changed! I lost a rear Mono Mini one last year but rode for 3 months without it as the oring retainer seemed to hold it so tight that it required pliers to squeeeze out. My Mono M4's don't seem to suffer with the problem so I assume its related to the Mono Mini shape not protecting the pin as much.
