in South Devon ???

Got me a business trip down there, kinda I fix PC, I get room and food all paid for and Fuel, upshot is I've got 2 days to ride and plan to go into the dark on both days.

I guess go around the Coast in the 1 direction, then the other direction the next day, I've walked around there but should get out 4 times as far.


Anyone, in that area ??

Need to stay away from Beaches really, or the Sand is going to rip my bike to bits.

Loads of Halthorns around the coast, so extra tubes for sure, good point.

Have a chat to Hot Pursuits in Totnes, they may knwo a few routes.


A lot of my youth was spent in Salcombe, messing about in boats, so I know the area pretty well, not too much riding raound there though

I think I'm just going to go along the coastal paths towards Torquay, see if I can get that far, then come back ( will have lights )

Then day 2, head the opposite way into Plymouth, which is only @15miles away, but likely come back that day aswell so, it'll do.

The costal path around Torquay is not "legal" for bikes.

It is full of coves which are not really ridable (although you may get down some if your mad)

You will have to cut back inland in places and naving in dark is not going to be easy.

Riding along beach fronts is not too bad but its not continuous with rocky headlands.

Also I dont know your starting point but there are lots of waterways that will need crossing so its a trip to the ferry or nearest upstream bridge. (ie Dartmouth)

Not worried about the Legal bit.

Starting at Hope Cove, and well I'll improvise, was thinking about the water ways, don't think my budget will stretch to ferrys, so riding around maybe.

No, worries about Naving in the Dark, if worse comes to worse I'll get on a road and zip back to base.

Extreme Cycling You will love it or is it mounting climbing made difficult.

Modify your bike with flotation devices and just sail round the rocky headlands

The paths should be fairly empty in the dark during winter so that should be no probs but don’t go giving us bikers a bad name.

Going towards Torquay you will meet the Kingsbridge estuary so that will be a trip out of the big hills at Solcombe to Kingsbridge then?

Tourist Season is over, the Entire Area will be empty, no worries there.

Not a Proper Map only Autoroute, will sort one out nearer the time.
