Can anyone advise me on the best set of light to use for around £200 ?. I cycle at nights for around 30 mins to get home from work. Need to be bright enough so I dont get knocked from my bike again !

PLEASE ADVISE ?
I can suggest you don't buy the ABS35. I spent the best part of 200 notes on a set of these a couple of years back and soon came to regret it.

Within a couple of months the average run time had dropped from one hour at 35 watts to about 5 mins at 15 watts. All those cables, brackets and batteries etc were a bit of a mission to lug around and connect up. Also the beam pattern was a bit naff.

Not sure what lights you should get for £200, I ended up getting a Lupine Edison, although if you can push the budget to £240 the USE Exposure Race light looks good. The small and simple design would be especially convenient for commuting too. All IMHO of course (and with no actual experience of the light!). Also, if you’re of the jammy sod nature, you could even win one from this here site (but please don't, I fancy winning it to mount on my helmet).

For riding on roads the legal maximum in the UK is 2.4W, IIRC.

OK, no police officer is going to pull you for having 25W, but don't be surprised if one day a cyclist with HID lights gets knocked off & the legal eagles start wittering about the lights being TOO bright.

oh, and I have a set of Cateye ABS20s - they're ok, but I need 2 pairs of batteries and a backup commuter light (for the road bits) to be sure of finishing a 2hr30 night ride with some light left.

Hi All, is anyone up for sorting out what lights do the business off road, me and a few friends have been playing around in the dark, with various sets of light to prove which are the best, what i propose is a test of lights at a place called the look out in bracknell, fairly good riding and prefect for a night ride,
Tha lights we have at the moment are Cat eye stadium's, Lumicycle HID Li-ion and the light and motion Arc li-ion, but we need more light to test i,e the new USE and Lugine's, and if anyone has lights for the test the more the better, this will not just a ride but testing the lights with lights meters and taking photos as if being used, Just let me know whos interested a we'll sort it out
I was out tonight for a 1 and a half hour nightride, I spent the last 20 mins or so riding side by side my mateso he could see the way home off the trails. The cateyes had long since packed up.

And the Lupines, well I am using them now to light up the living room, jus to finish off the battery :-)

What lugines are they??? and what cat eye's did you friend have, My Staduim's can run between 3 to 3.5 hours i've found depending temperture and my mate's Lumicyle's are still running after 5.5 hours, the only draw back with HID's are the cost of the replace bulb but the light is fantastic !!!
My mates were abs 30's mine are Lupine Nightmare Pros

ABS - Absolute Battery Shoddiness

I have a set & spare pair of batteries to be sure of completing a 2.5 hour night ride without running out of light.

Is the legal situation re 2.4w on the road that to meet british standard it must be 2.4w not a maximum. so as long as you have a light that meets the BS then the other light can be what ever as it in the legal sence it is not a light.
