From what I have seen on other forums is that the general opinion is that the 10w bulb is more of a flood . They seem to opt for swapping the original 10w over to the 5w side and getting rid of the 5w bulb , they then go and buy a proper spot 10w replacement and stick that in place of the original 10w bulb . After having read this my only real problem is that I run an Orange Patriot that has no bottle cage braze ons anywhere ... so a bottle caged battery is a real NO NO! . I`ve sniffed out various bottle cage type add ons and clamps but none of them seem to secure for general bumpiness on the hills ..... the Zefal Gizmo seems a good idea but once again due to swingarm and suspension placement I`m limited to having a bottle cage mounted on the top tube or my seatpost (not ideal for my Jabob`s * if I have a crash ) The final option which I think I will go for is their new set of lights (Electron EHP330) which are a 10w - 15w MR11 configuration with the new style frame mounted battery that velcro`s on ... also has the benfit of smart charging so won`t overcharge and cook the battery . Seen these for as little as £71 online too .
Dude, go to www.therush.uk.com the Elite £71.95 12watt Flood fits on your helmet where U look is where U see and the battery is tiny and drops into your rucksack.
Loads easier, 2.5hour runtime spare batterys I think are available.
I bought these for £40 at Merlin, swapped out both bulbs to 10w from Maplin. Done some real bumpy downhill singletrack with no problem. The 10w is fine on climbs and the flat, switch both on when needed and have had over 2 hours + burntime. I'm considering buying another battery for £20 and shoving it in my backpack for longer rides.
Can vouch for the light dylan suggested. I have that AND the Pro Pro-Elites and i ma considering just using the head torch cos it sheds enough light to be honest and has lasted over 2hrs on a few rides so far.
If you could tell Sinead that Hobo, that'd be nice I'm trying to get her to buy those, but she wants to do it real cheap, which will be Zero use then she'll waste more money arrghhhhhhhhh
I am pleased i bought the others. Hell i have introduced 3 other riders to night riding by lending them the helmet light so its money well spent.
I have only ridden on all 3 once and it was a bit overkill but i was thinking if i had them i may as well use them.
In future i will probably use the bar lights and the head light will be a just as good back up. hell i can prob string them out for a good 6hrs if i went carefull.
I find you cant look at any of yer riding buddie for fear of blinding them though. Every time i talked to barry or saintly they told me to fcuk off!!! Or was that just cos i was talking to them ;-)
i ditched the 5w for a 10w for the 24hr SITS and they were more than enough with a small compromise in run time. Both wattages are biased toward flood than spot and they can be easily got from CRC.
Well I need to have the lights for commuting as well as I use my bike to travel to work on 4 days a week , I don`t mind looking like summat out of Aliens with a helmet mounted light when I`m on the hills but around here I would rather have Bar mounted lights ...... Anyway knowing me and my engineering skills I could see me mounting the Higher wattage spot on a helmet anyway for night ride use .
