Anyone got any rec's for a front fender that won't self-destruct after two weeks?
Crud Catchers are okay, but don't really keep the crap out of your face and my Topeak Defender - which was doing an okay job - broke the other night when the mounting bracket sheared.
Any feedback on the SKS models? Which one, I notice they have one which they claim is virtually unbreakable - at a price - but will the mounting hardware survive?
How about the 'The Fender'? Am I right in thinking that they're not quickly detachable, which is an issue, as I need to remove it to fit the bike in the boot of the car.
Any advice gratefully received.
Finally, anyone know if it's possible to buy the Topeak mounting bracket separately? The blade bist are okay, it's just the thing they slot into.
I have had an SKS Shockblade, it rattles slightly but keeps the elements at bay. It's possible to wring it like a cloth and it just springs back so no need to worry about it breaking, don't know how the mounting bracket would fare after a hard knock - mines still OK after 2years though.
If you have Manitou forks get the reverse arch model otherwise go for the standard one. (I don't think they do any other MTB models)
obviously fork dependant but i run a marzocchi fender and it's actually very good, really high quality plastic. i left it in the garage bent literally in half, i thought it was knackered but no, after i took the bike out it began tol fold itself back into shape... after about 10 minutes it was back to it's original shape!
£17 and requires marzocchi forks, but that's not a bad thing imo.
Decathlon have a set of 'moto' style front mudguards for £6, almost disposable and yet they are very strong - Have lasted me two years and I only had to replace them due to me leaving them on my car roof at CYB.
They fix via a quill type attatchment into the underside of the steerrer tube so only work if you have the starfangledfella in there.
Obviously they have decathlon written on them and are very uncool - but then I have (very) Yellow magura hs35's on a (very) orange bike AND i'm considering bar ends on riser bar so I'm already quite (ok, a little more than) sad.
Erm ...just exactly how do you explode a mudguard?
Explode? Erm, the bracket sort of shatters - the Topeak guards themselves have been fine, but the mounting hardware leaves a bit to be desired in terms of durability IME.
Looks like SKS or Decathlon then. Thanks for the input.
