Just had an email from Whyte and they will be replacing the original Alpine link with a new one.. free. Just contact your retailer.

The new links are being sent out today.

Got the new link on and it's 'proper' this time! The link no longer limits the shock stroke and allows the RP3 to do its job properly, so you can run your shock at your regular pressure.

I was kept up to date and every email I sent to ATB Sales was responded to within a couple of hours. The swap was free too, so thanks Whyte / ATB Sales for offering a great, no bull service.

So if any of you are still after one, go ahead, but make sure that the Alpine link that you buy has a cutout on the upper side of the link only (old versions had cutouts top and bottom)
