Shock pump is for just in case. I really should get some sort of mini shock pump. I am not going say how many times Iv'e used one one the trail as that would be asking for it.
EVERYONE should carry some sort of first aid kit + fermal blanket. Mine just has some large and medium dressings and 4 triangular bandges, and a phew over essentials (tape, scissors etc). And hope you never need it
I once had my rear quick release break on me at the furthest point of a ride.
It was in the Cairngorms on my Saracen Tufftrax comp. It had slotted dropouts so I could only freewheel as every time I tried to pedal the wheel twisted in the frame. The rear hub had also seized, which is probably why the QR broke in the first place.
I had to walk to Aviemore and then to Boat of garten. If only I had zip ties on me.
Mini pump Shock pump Pedal spanner Multi-tool with chain splitter Allen keys Hypercracker 10mm Allen key Spoke key Zip ties Roll of electrical tape Spare tube and patch set & levers Tyre boot (Park's version of a banana skin) Black bin liner Phone Couple of quid 2ltrs of water Energy gel and an extra layer like a windstopper.
And I'll keep a first aid kit in the car together with a flask of coffee and a spare pair of warm socks!
why is no matter how many spare tubes i carry i use them all. if i don't have a spare with me i don't need one i have proved that so many times its unreal
the other day i came across a 700cc tube put it in my bag and went to meet my lady. she had decided to ride her road bike and had had a puncture on the way and ruined her tube so i had to use it i also had a 26" one which i had to use an hour later this has happened so often
Since using Specialized tyres I haven't had a puncture! They're not the grippiest, or the lightest, but the rubber lasts forever if you gotta ride on the road too.
specialized tyres, mine have never had a puncture, except getting stabbed by some daft f** while i was at school, mind you, the bikes broken so much it's only gone about a mile...
Didn't have any punctures in over a year on the Conti's, Verti's and Survivals, then got 2 in less than 1/2 a mile, back and front so not the same thorn, arssee.
Looking, to get a cheap GPS this year, most of the time I ride area's I know well, but planning a 270mile north to south wales trip, and with my navigation / paying attention to where I'm going, it'd be 1000miles LOL

what ones my roll x always get puctures and are all most worn out. are they the new adrenaline tyre?
Spiderman, the old Team control/master. Not the Armadillo ones, but standard reinforced casing ones. I have the Sport versions (less aggressive tread) on another bike which are equally as good. What's the adrenaline like?
Thanks for the info, all seems reasonably consistent. As well as my normal multitool and puncture stuff I've: - added the chain splitter and some spare links - ordered a SRAM powerlink - added spare disc pads and split pin - wrapped some duct tape round my pump - taken my spare cleats out (I've never known what they were doing in there in the first place!)
Still to go in (not yet bought) are a mech hanger and zipties (turns out my infinite supply isn't)
