My weight is 130 kg or 290 lbs. I want to upgrade my in-sync OEM fork for something better.
I rides aggressive XC with my Marin hardtail.
I have problem to decide between the 3 following:
1. Marzocchi mx comp air
2. Marzocchi mx comp coil
3. Marzocchi mx comp ETA which have one leg air and the other leg coil.
Help needed, please.

I'd say get a Coil Fork although MX Comps run at low pressure so should be fine, I ride Coil 224lbs :( you'll have to get spring upgrades ofcourse, which will cost the same a pump pretty much, but it's fit and forget.

get the ETA if you like and need help climbing.

My wife and I come to 55 + 67 = 122kg. We use a Marzo dirt Jumper III 05 on our tandem with standard springs and 7psi. The 04 has softer springs.

I think you might find the MX comp flexes a lot especially under braking.

I'd say the Mx Comp airs as you can just put some extra air i if they feel to soft for you.

You'd have to put thicker oil in, or ramp up the damping internally if you can do that. ( I think you can ), I don't like air though to easy to pop a seal especially with that weight on it.

Well, going to have to what ever you do really.

I'm suggesting that inon needs the strength Dylan and that the characteristics of the DJ III suit jumpers or heavy riders/tandems for XC. The DJ III is heavy but is remarkably flex free, tracks superbly, is adequately damped without 'spiking' and is frankly an exceptional piece of kit. I've got an MX Comp air but wouldn't put it on the tandem.

Our weights - yeah :)

Your 7 pounds is about right Dylan - it went off the scale of my kitchen scales so I had to weigh one end at a time and add up. I forgot to mention that it doesn't go stiff under braking either. Thanks Marzo.

True but I wanted a 100mm fork. 100mm would suit inon's Marin too. You can get a kit to take the DJ III to 130mm.

I would go for option 3. I have marathon XC's which are coil / air. I'm pretty heavy too.

I was previously running SID SL's and the marzocchis are so much more solid and inspiring.

SID's are 2.8lbs though and about the flexyest forks ever.

And MX Comp ETA Dual Coils around still ??
I thought I saw some on Chain Reaction for £169 area a few weeks back ??

thank you all for the fast and interesting replies. i think i will go with the comp coil, the DJ3 is way too heavy for uphill singles.
i will check if the comp ETA can have its coil be replaced to stiffer for my heavy weight. thank you, and i will be happy to read more of your opinions. Inon

You'll definitally need a different spring I'm sorry to say, but once fitted you can forget it.
